Losing hair and 23

:(

It's been really bad for a few years. I've had a fringe since I was about 16, because 1 I am not confident and 2 I don't like the way I look in general. But it was becoming too hard to cover up especially when it was windy it made it totally obvious then.

I had it cut shorter a few weeks ago and it looks awful. I can't do a thing with it. It seems to be receding more all the time.

I'm really depressed about it now. I don't feel comfortable leaving the house unless I wear a hat and I can't do that everywhere :( :( :( :( :( :(

I feel for you man. I've been in similar situations in the past. You have to know, many users here started balding around the age of 17-18.

Get on propecia, it should let you keep the hair you have and regrow some.

Re: Losing hair and only 23

I'm only 21 and I've been retreating and thinning since about 16 as well...

Like was suggested, try propecia... but I'd suggest going the big 3 to get the most possible results. (Big 3 = Finasteride, Minoxidil and Nizoral)

Hey, maybe we can start our regimens at the same time? I haven't touched Minoxidil yet, but I want to start it.

And if it doesn't work, you could always hit the gym hard and buzz it all off and pull the Vin Diesel look, heh heh.

Well, first and foremost, go see a dermatologist. If you don't have thyroid problems, or any other hairloss causing issues such as diabetes, and the dermatologist concludes that it is male pattern baldness, they'll prescribe you one, two or all of 3 things:

Topical Minoxidil (Rogaine), essentially is a drug that you put onto your scalp that can regrow hair, if you respond well to it.

Propecia, aka Finasteride, which is a daily oral drug that stops DHT from attacking your hair follicles.

And Nizoral, which is a shampoo that also stops DHT.

Re: Losing hair and only 23

I am almost 23 and noticed hair thinning in November 08. I know what you are going through! I am trying herbal treatments before I try any of the big 3 as sort of an investigation.

I see 50-60 year olds out and about with full head of hair, and am wondering why I am losing hair at such a young age. This is really depressing.

Hell at least you started at 23, I started at 18. Some people here even started at 16 or 14 here.

What can I do to make my hair better. As you can probably see I've been well stressed about it . :(
I wash it a few times a week but it goes all horrible like this within a day or so. I haven't used any treatments as of yet. :(

btw i don't have it like that thats just to show, although it doesnt exactly look much better

23 is an okay age already. Think, if you were 17 like me. I would be very happy, if I could keep an atleast NW3 by your age. You have a NW2 only. Lucker.

Re: Losing hair and only 23

I wouldn't say lucky, since I'm unable to do anything at all with it and worse still it doesn't suit me since i've always had a fringe. :( I fear it won't be NW2 for much longer if thats what it is, cause I read your topic earlier and thought yours was very similar to mine, at least you are more suited to it.

Re: Losing hair and only 23

I went to doctors today and just got asked if it runs in the family (it does) and that I'll just have to accept it. :(

Why don't you just start treatments? Propecia to (at least) keep your hair, minoxidil to regrow some.

How do I get Propecia when my doctor wasn't that interested?
And minoxidil, how is that used?

Just change the dermatologist or order it online.
minoxidil is applied to the scalp, it's a topical treatment.

Your hair seems to be a bit greasy and no shampoo is going to remedy that. Finasteride, by the contrary, could be helpful. In my case, finasteride (Proscar 1/4) saved my hair AND improved the appearance of my scalp - i.e. it looks healthier and less greasy, even if I don't wash it for a couple of days. Give it a try but talk to a dermatologist first.

How exactly do I get to see a dermatologist, doesn't my doctor have to send me to see one?

you can book an appointment with a dermatologist directly.

I recomend you do your homework before going to see one..... read a little and know what to ask and be sure to get the info from him that you need. some Drs. are clueless when it come to hairloss.
