Losing faith in Nizoral

Hi Guys,

Have been using nizoral for nearly 4 years along with T-GEL and H&S. Recently I noticed that nizoral was actually causing severe itching and flaking right after I applied it. Not only that but on the days I applied nizoral I saw significantly more hairs lost in the shower and later on in the day. So I did a little test. I used T-gel one entire week and experienced very little itching and less shedding. This week I have tried nizoral twice and my scalp is really irritated and flaky. Also shedding has increased.

I find this really strange since nizoral is supposed to be one of the best anti-dandruff anti-itch products out there. Has anyone else encountered this before? Should I stop using nizoral altogether?

Yes, EXACTLY the same! And I know of many others who reported the same! That´s why I don´t advise it to newbies anymore!

Definetly! Itching and shedding can´t be a good sign. That´s why I stopped it very fast.

I had a bit of a reaction the first couple of times I used it, but have been fine since. I have to be sure to wipe it off my forehead when I leave it in my hair for a few minutes or the forehead goes embarassingly red. My scalp is fine with it though. I guess like any medication some people tollerate it better than others. I am sceptical of the extent of the benefits, but it is a cheap and convenient addition and wouldn't like to take a chance on dropping it.

I have stopped nizoral since I felt it has dried my scalp too much. I may pick it up again one day. I dunno. It helps but not much IMO.

Cassin, nice to know you are a Mirko fan. Hope he does well in his next fight and doesn't let the loss bring him down.

Could you tell me what shampoo you are using now in place of nizoral?

Same for GSP right? I would say I am Mirko 1 and GSP 2 then Franklin. Its been a hard year!

I have always used some nice salicylic acid shampoo and I think it works great if you use tropicals. nizoral is great but IMO the side effects can outweigh the benefits.

Also IMO you are using too many medicated shampoos. Your scalp needs a break. Consider working in a nice hydrating conditioner.

So I woulnd't say I use it in lieu of Nizoral. I just use it no matter what.

Darn, and this post was made right after I purchased Nizoral 2%....I've been using 1% and I don't think its doing anything for my hair either except cleaning it.

thats a good thing though.

Nizoral will not make or break a regimen. It will certainly help to a degree. Make sure you use conditioner because it has a serious drying out effect of the scalp and hair for some people, like me.

Nothing wrong with medicating your scalp. What do you think propecia is?

Now 2-3 topicals in the same day may be excessive.
