Hi guys. First off I would like to apologize if this is the wrong section to post this in. Wasn't sure if I should post it here or "tell your story"
Anyways, it turns out I've been losing my hairline for several years, I only started to notice it recently and I just kinda crossed my fingers and told myself "It's not gonna get any worse"
Well recently it has started to speed up, especially around my right temple which seems to be getting thinner daily.
I've been doing some research to see what causes hair loss and what can be done about it, but there's so much information and misinformation that I'd like to get some opinions here before I jump into anything.
Here are a couple pictures of my hairline and crown
Right side
Left side
So my main question is the same as everyone else. What can I do?
The most common treatment I've seen is quite simple:
5% minioxidil AM/PM
2% ketoconazole shampoo EoD
Is this about as good as it gets without hopping on finasteride? Can you hope for any regrowth using these products, or is this just a way to stop shedding?
Other questions:
Do any hair loss treatments work in the long term?
Is it worth visiting a doctor and having him diagnose my cause for hair loss? I've read that hair loss can be caused by other factors such as poor thyroid health.
Is there any reason for me to be concerned that my right temple is thinning faster than the left?
I wouldn't have a problem with shaving it off, but I'm light skinned, freckle easily and have a family history of melanoma. I'm concerned that if I lose the hair on top I will be at an even greater risk for skin cancer if I'm not constantly wearing a hat =\
Thanks guys, really appreciate any information you can provide. Google has overwhelmed me.
