Hello,

First off , Varicocele is a pack of swollen scrotum veins that drain testicles from their blood by transferring it to the body which can result in overall low testosterone and reduced fertility (in some cases with mild/average pain).

This being said , some will wonder what in the hell does all of this have to do with hair loss , let me get to it , but first here's a bit of my personal story related to varicocele.

I had it since I was 14 (left side) , that is causing a very casual and very mild discomfort , and still .... only when I keep jumping more than 20 times.

OK , now here come the nitty-gritty : http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/6638539 , http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/24429393

these studies are suggesting that varicocele patients have decreased DHT / decreased AR in their sperm , makes perfect sense since this thing is like almost being castrated.

Now I am aware that decreased DHT doesn't exclude hair loss ,knowing the fact that it all depends of your sensitivity to it , but still ,decreased DHT is like crippling the monster.

what do you guys think ?

Any of you having it ? (provided that it began when you were young enough) I would be glad to hear about how your hair responded to it.

thank you

This is a major interest of mine and relevance to me as I have had a grade 3 varicocele since I was a teenager and recently decided to something about it and scheduled for a microsurgical varicocelectomy soon. I have been researching this for many years and I know everything about varicoceles and their effects. I'm active on many other forums discussing this such as anabolic minds, t-nation etc. I'm out at the moment but I'll message you my story when I return home and my opinions and findings based on many years of research and talking to guys with this. I'll just say I believe it's the reason for my premature hair loss (not to mention the pain I get from it).

I look forward to hear what you know about this matter!

I think that there is some misunderstanding though , you are saying that this caused you premature hair loss , I am talking about it as being some kind of hairloss hindering factor.

this is still fuzzy , if this causes low testosterone it can't be good.

just for the record : I had an unchanged level of hairloss since 5 years now (I am almost 22) , which is a slightly thinning crown.

thank you for presenting yourself .

I can't remember if I had a varicocele or spermatocele, but the doctor didn't do anything and said it was not a big deal. One question to you, are you paying for all these publications? How are you reading them?

the abstract in what I have linked only , I didn't read any further.

so no I didn't pay for anything or download anything.

This is why you're usually so misinformed. Abstracts are very difficult to write in the sense that you only get 150-250 words usually. A lot of information is left out and usually the results are boasted to be better than they actually are. After all, the whole point of an abstract is to grab someone's attention.

Usually, however, in the full text there will be lots of caveats to the statements made in the abstract.

Example: Abstract statement: "We found that injecting test subjects with chemical XX stopped the progression of HIV."

Full Text: "We found that injecting test subjects with chemical XX stopped the progression of HIV. However, this effect was only temporary and the long term effects were not studied. Further investigation is necessary to illuminate the viability of chemical XX in curing HIV in humans".

See how it can make a big difference?

I exactly know how it works , that's advertisement basically.

when it comes to these things , with people having big smiles up their faces , I immediately know that everything isn't tip-top and end up being reluctant about it.

but what I have read on that article has nothing to do with being economical with the truth , what do you think ? that these scientists are praising varicocele ? why don't they mention the reduced probabilities of hair-loss that varicocele patients are subject to ,if ever it is the case?

that's the complete opposite ,they are talking about the downside of it. you can't advertise an inconvenient now ,can you?

they didn't mention anything about hair loss anywhere , I am just saying that this could have a positive impact on it.

Nevermind, you didn't understand what I was saying. It's not about advertising.

I also have had a grade 3 varicocele since my teenage years. I recently visiting a urologist for the first time and I am considering having the surgical procedure to fix it.

However, it seems there are conflicting claims in this thread. First, that having a varicocele may actually slow hair loss, and second, that it may accelerate hair loss. Perhaps it's completely unrelated.

All I can say is that I'm 22 years old, my hairline has been receding quickly since about age 20/21, and I also have moderate thinning on the top of my head (although not much on the crown). So, I'm relatively young and getting hair loss anyway, despite the varicocele. But that's just an anecdotal situation.

your anecdotal situation is good enough for me ,that's what I am looking for in the first place , it would be difficult to pinpoint a direct relation between these two.

as for me , I might be having a grade 2 with no pain , or very mild , hope it remains that way.

my hairline didn't recede , I just have a slight thinning on the crown.

@californiaoceans911 : I did understand what you were talking about , that this publication didn't give enough details , I was talking about something else

I'm really curious about what happen. Did you ever get this surgery? Your story sounds insanely similar to mine.
