Looking For A Regime For Hair Loss... Finasteride, Minoxidil, Or Others?

I am currently trying to decide on a regime for preventing and treating hair loss. I read that Nizoral shampoo can help to prevent hair loss, so I started using that last week. I am also looking for something that will help to stop further hair loss and help to regain lost hair.

I have read on here that Finasteride is the best place to start. Should I use this along side Minoxidil, or on its own? What have been your experiences on Finasteride and Minoxodil? Also, I am in the UK and I'm not sure where I can buy those. If anyone from the UK could tell me where I can get hold of those it would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

Hi k9gatton, thank you for the advice on what to try first. Do you have experience with Finasteride and Minoxidil? If so, have you had good results? Any side effects? Are you based in the UK? I'm unsure of whether I can get both of those things on prescription.

Post a pic or two up for us to look. If things arent that bad finasteride may be enough for now. minoxidil is messy and harder to keep consistent with so if your loss is minimal its maybe easier to just take a finasteride tablet everyday and see how it goes.

You wont get minoxidil on prescription in uk but i buy it on ebay and get the generic type called kirkland. You can get 6minths worth for v cheap there.

For finasteride your Doctor may prescribe or if your docs like mine and says just bald gracefully then you can buy online at inhouse oharmacy or alldaychemist.

Nizoral your already on and thats good as well.

Good luck with your regime.

Thanks runninghair, you may be right about me only needing finasteride to start with, as I don't think my hair loss is too bad at the moment, but it has thinned since last year.

Thank you for suggesting which websites to get finasteride from if my Doctor won't prescribe it. I had a look on the websites and I'm surprised about how cheap it is to buy. Is this medicine normally this cheap to buy?

I will put pictures up as soon as I get a chance. Thanks.

finasteride can be debatable on whether you think its worth the risks or not, but its undoubtedly the most effective treatment long term to keep hair.
minoxidil is crazy cheap, and proven to work. Yes its a bit of a hassle IMO, but for the price its the most cost effective treatment there is, and not that risky. Why would anyone with male pattern baldness not be on minoxidil? its like less then 10 a month

Thanks for all your responses.

abcdefg - the thing that worries me about minoxidil, is apparently there is more of a chance of a shedding period with that than with finasteride? Did you go through a shedding period? Anyone please feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, as I've never used any of those treatments before.

k9gatton - thanks for showing pictures of how your hair was before, there's a big difference. It's great to see other peoples results, and I look forward to seeing your up to date pictures when you add them.

I have attached some pictures of my hair as it is just now. How it looks when both wet and dry.

k9gatton - do you have your latest pictures yet to show improvements?

Any thoughts on my current situation - please see pics above. I've decided I'm going to start finasteride soon.
