Long term (9 year) effect of %5 Minoxidil foam on healthy vertex region

Greetings fellow soldiers in the battle on hair-loss:

I started using minoxidil %5 foam/1mg propecia/nizoral shampoo (the concoction otherwise known as the "big three") when I got to the NW3 stage at age 24, about ten years ago. In that 10 years time I've grown hair back in at the temples and went from NW3 to NW2, thus almost never checked in with forum over the years here because I'm happy with my results. I think I posted a picture update in Fall 2013. I really have no idea what's happening in this forum anymore.
Onto my question: I know for a fact that I'm genetically predisposed to the NW5-NW7 range of hairloss (total disaster). Ergo, I've always used my %5 foam not only on my temples, but also on the vertex as a PREVENTATIVE measure to keep that vertex hair from even thinking about falling out/thinning. Is that logic completely stupid?/bad idea? Anyone else do that with good results?

BTW I really do appreciate the help I've gotten over the last 9 years here off and on when I do log in - it's just that when you get the upperhand in the outcome of a war, you don't really wanna keep remeniscing on it..you just enjoy the hair and all the trouble it gets you into with the opposite (or same for some) sex.

I'm happy for your happiness.
Min. does nothing for me (1.5 years). I find min. response is a mixed bag.
Brad if you've been following the same routine for several years and maintaining + regrowth,
then I think maybe the writing is on the wall (in bold print).
Thanks for checking back in. Wishing U continual progress.

Good for you!
not totally sure, though, that you can say that you are genetically predisposed to a certain Norwood situation. Every individual is the product of the unique recombination of genes coming from both mother and father. I have seen brothers who are one a NW1 and one a NW5, the latter being the younger!
As for the minoxidil on the vertex, it is precisely where it is supposed to go, if you read their indications!

No it's not a stupid idea to use minoxidil as a preventive treatment. It's the best thing you can do. The hair that minoxidil thickened or regrew, or stopped falling would fall right off within months if you stop using it. And you are right, you are probably predisposed to be NW5 or 6 like every other guy with male pattern baldness. It's just the natural pattern we eventually end up in.

I'm glad you wrote this, it shows minoxidil works long term. It works for me, it stopped my hairloss by itself, so it puts me at ease that minoxidil can possibly work for long term.

Thanks for the helpful and supportive feedback. I will continue with this regimine unchanged until I see something going wrong.
