I am 30 and my father is 52. As far as I can remember my Dad has always had a receeded hairline and likewise for me. I started to receed at 18 but 12 years later, I would say I have receeded an extra inch or so. I personally thought that I would have been totally bald at 25 but I wasn't. Do you think I will simply look like my father in 20 years time or will I be balder than him at a much earlier age? I have a photo of my father ten years ago and his hairloss has hardly progressed but I do not have any pictures of him when he was 30 (same age as me). I have also asked him what he looked like when he was my age and he doesn't remember. Baldness doesn't bother him but it does bother me. However, if I look like him with no treatments by the time I am 50 then I'd be happy. What do you think?

This is me (aged 30)..

By the way, My hair is just growing back from a number 1 and I have hair-gel in it. Crown is thicker than it looks.

wiht the way your hair looks now, you'd be doing pretty good to have your father's hair. Block that DHT! Stat!

Dude, that's sort of a discouraging post, he didn't need to hear that! =)

I think hair loss starts and then slows down a bit, seriously. My dad was like a Norwood 4 at age 40 and then a Norwood 5 at age 50.

I also have been thinking about this, because my cousin is way balder than his dad, and I think baldness is becoming worse in general. It is the dominant gene, right?

You'll probably be about the same.

That is, if you don't take any hair loss treatments, and if you aren't interested in completely reversing your baldness (which will be possible long before you are 50!)

true...its a different baldinh pattern. Pops' crown is pretty much perfect. Youre your own worst judge however and nobody htinks your as bald as yuo actually are. Also, lets assume you wont be in too many situations where people are staring atthe top of your scalp with really bright lights shining on it. This might sound dumb..but if I had to pick between frontal and crown loss....i'd take crown in a second. Maybe you'll look better. At least dad isnt a NW7.

Do you think propecia would help you if you had your dad's hairline?
You seem to be mostly receding.

The barber screwed up my hair by shaving the back too high onto the crown. Its only a few mm there, hence it looks thinner with the bright light. Like my Dad its frontal loss for me, our crowns are the same. As I said if I took no treatments for the next 20 years then I'd be happy if I had the same amount of hair as 'Pops'. However if I was bald alot earlier then I would not be and go down the route of treatments. I have used Proscar for a year when I was 23, my condition did not get worst neither better. However I was one of those rare unlucky ones with sexual side effects so I disconinued its use. I am not willing to go down the finasteride route again but willing to go down the topical anti-androgens/dht inhibitors or high strength minoxidl. I had my heart set on Proscar, are there any studies out there with reducing the dosage to every other day and not getting the extreme side effects. Or do you think I would still probably get them as I have had them before. I am having trouble working out which product to use and not sure which path to chose, any help would be extremely appreciated.
