L-arginine - morning or night? How much?

Well, I finally got on L-arginine. I've been on it for more than a week, and I can already see some benefit. Now I have a couple of questions:

I've heard Bryan and Bruce Lee discussing what time is best to take l-arginine. Bryan implied that it's better to take it first thing in the morning while putting off breakfast, in order to get the full benefit of increased growth hormone. Why do you feel it's the best time, Bryan?

Secondly, for those of you already on l-arginine, what is the dosage you find effective?

Thanks!

How much are you taking? How many times a day, and at what time of the day? What is the specific reason that you're using it? GH release, or something else?

Basically, a couple of reasons:

1) Your stomach will never be emptier than first thing when you wake up in the morning. I personally find it MUCH easier to postpone breakfast for a couple of hours in the morning than to stop eating completely right after dinner. I don't know about you, but I simply CANNOT resist eating a snack sometime later in the evening!!

2) As we get older and older and release less and less total GH from all sources, the normal sleep-time release that we get becomes the most significant portion of all. I think it's a BAD idea to combine that with OTHER means of GH release, like pharmaceutical or nutritional methods. It just doesn't make sense to me, and seems about as desireable as, say, getting your whole day's worth of INSULIN all at once! See what I mean? :freaked2:

Teenagers and young adults have random and unpredictable spurts of GH release throughout the day, not just during sleep. I think we should emulate that pattern as much as possible, and not release our GH all at once during the night. If you have a choice in the matter, at least save a dose of it for in the morning!

Thanks, Bryan. That was informative as usual.
Ok, as for my dosage, I'm taking 2 grams per day, and I've been taking it in the morning. I usually wait about one hour before eating breakfast. Is that long enough?
The reason I am taking it is for erection problems. Unfortunately, proscar is giving me this side effect, so I'm using l-arginine to counter it.
Is 2 grams too much? Should I take the doses at different times during the day?

Oops! In that case, all bets are off! :?

If your reason for taking arginine were strictly for GH release, then I was going to have some additional opinions for you, like use it only rather intermittently to try to avoid tolerance to it; and that 2 grams is actually rather on the low side for that purpose.

But since you're using it specifically to fight libido problems, I don't really have anything to add to that. I think the best way to use it for THAT special purpose is anybody's guess. It's going to be a matter of trial and error for you.

Ah, so 2 grams is too low for increasing GH? I see. Well, I mean the increase in GH is a nice side benefit of the L-arginine of course, but if it fixes my finasteride-related issues, I'll be totally satisfied. If it doesn't work, I'm giving up finasteride. In that case, I think I'll stick strictly with Revivogen once a day, along with Nizoral 3 x a week, of course.
Bryan, do you think such a regimen would work?
Also, do you think there is really any benefit to Revivogen Shampoo for treating hairloss? That's off topic, I know, but I've been wondering this lately. GLA in a shampoo...any effect on hairloss? What do you think?

Nope...Here's a snip from their descriptionof the shampoo

"The shampoo alone is not sufficient to stimulate growth or retard hair loss"

i read somewhere that a long term use of high doses of Arginine was a bad idea. (herpes, iron deficiency,

On my Arginine box (1 g pill), the text recommends to use one gram of it for about one or 2 weeks not more.

I'd also like to use it on a long term daily basis but wonder how much i could take without taking any risk.

Any information about that?

And how about Ginseng or Gingko Biloba as arginine substitute?

In my opinion, ginseng hasn't got a lot of benefit for such problems. The theory that ginseng is beneficial for libido or erection maintainance comes from age old beliefs here in China, Korea, and Japan. There are no scientific studies proposing it's effectiveness to my knowledge, where at least L-arginine has a few studies.
I take more ginseng in a day than a normal suppliment because it's just a part of my regular diet here in Korea.
It hasn't helped.
I'm really thinking of getting on GNC Megaman vitamans or Walgreens Ultra Vitamins since I can't see paying this much money for 3-5 grams of Arginine per day.
I'm a bit worried about the safety of taking such a high dosage.
Perhaps in combination with such multivitamins, arginine could really work for me.

I just went on Arginine a few weeks ago. Been taking around four 500mg pills a day.

I also started taking Ginseng at around the same time.

Anyway, I have noticed a huge differance. Those things seem like they're working for me.

Brian, I am 20. Is taking Arginine a bad idea at my age? Thanks
