just starting to thin - or am I being PARANOID!?

Hi, I should probably lay off the funny stuff - but I seem to be so paranoid about loosing my hair, over the past year, everytime I look in the mirror, I look and think I'm thinning, is starting to drive me nuts.

I'm 25, I'm male - I have long hair, down to my neck anyway, the sides of my head have very thick, curly, and short hair, the sides have never grown long and are very matt and thick, almost - pubic!! however the rest of my hair covers this, it's long and shiney, not thick quite normal.

My center parting is strange, I've noticed that if I ruff the hair up on my parting, there are many short hairs, and I was noticing that the only thinning was at the very front of my hair line where it starts, and in the middle of my center parting, the area that I part my hair. I did blow dry my hair everyday from the age of 17 till 25 - and have just stopped, I think I was holding the dryer too close to my hair and think I may have damaged the hair which explains why it was shorter up there - I decided to cut this shorter hair on my parting line a bit so that it could regrow (as I think it was damaged?) I think it's got a bit better, I'm unsure. On some days my head did get hot and I could occasionally smell burning hair! very very stupid of me I know, how I shower with luke warm water and don't blow dry - I don't look like as much of a girl now either :D

Anyway, as my hair is long I'm trying to figure out if I am loosing hair, can I post a picture up here and get some opinions? my grandads on both sides of my family we're totally BALD, my uncle was bald at my age, so far i'm not looking too bad but have noticed some change, it's hard to tell when you're hair is long especially when I'm just noticing it on the line of my center parting??

My main question is - if I start propecia - I'm worried I will thin too much for my cut, does everybody thin out? is it guarenteed or maybe my long hair won't show it as much? I wash my hair everyday it seems to get VERY greesey in just one day, if it's not washed I look.. skanky!

Anyway, sorry for the random post it isn't the most structured of posts! be great to talk about it if anyone fancies giving me some help.

I can post some close up pictures if needs be, if I am starting to loose my hair then I might just take a gulp and start to buy this propecia stuff.

Thanks in advance,
Mark.

ps: if I stop taking propecia once there is an improvement - what will happen??

Usually if your vertex is thinning your hairline will have pulled back a little bit in to the classic V. Is this your case?

cutting hair does not make it grow (how could it ?) this is an old wives tale.

not quite sure what you are asking here ? are you saying propecia does not infact help you maintain your hair but actually does this opposite and encourages your hair to thin ?

Blow drying your hair is not such a bad thing as long as you use medium heat and, as you noticed, don't get the dryer too close to the scalp. I'd like to see some pics of your hair as it sounds like you've got a good head of hair:)

I think you are losing your hair because most people lose 50% of their hair before they notice the symptoms like a receeding hairling or a bald spot. Sounds like you are getting that overall thinning which will soon be followed by the classic signs.

Get on the propecia ASAP would be my suggestion.

Sorry to be a*** here but he said regrow, ie cut off the damaged portion so that when it continues to grow the new growth will be healthy. This is the real old wives tale, at least this is what my mom, an old wife, used to say to me when I had long hair. She only meant that I cut an inch or two off every once in a while to remove the dead/split ends.

The big question is how does the hair look when wet and are these tiny hairs pigmentless and ultra thin. If they are then get on propecia and see if it helps

thanks for all your help.

check my pictures here: http://www.hairlosstalk.com/discussions ... highlight=

I didn't think anyone replied to my post, I thought I got one reply as I got a notification, but I didn't get notified for my other posts, or maybe they got caught in my email programs spam filter.

anyway, thanks again for your help.

the smaller hairs are finer, with less colour, and generally about 1 inch long. hopefully these are the hairs that will shed, and then regrow once I start propecia!

I've heard that your hair grows faster if you cut it a bit that's all, also I think I damaged my hair with a hair dryer a long time ago, or maybe that isn't the cause for my slight thinning at all, but anyway that's why I cut it, to see if it would grow back better, and longer.

no!!

I meant that if I cut my hair, i'm worried i'll go through a scary thinning phase! :freaked:
