I've taken the plunge and started with propecia. I still have 75% of my hair left, it's just begun to thin in areas so I'm mainly looking to halt the hair loss in its tracks and if I can thicken it in some parts, that would be sensational.

I got my GP to prescribe it (has to be a private prescription in the UK). She was telling me that older men who take 5mg finasteride often experience breast enlargement....but I don't believe that people experience that when taking propecia (1mg finasteride). Is that right?

Also, I've read that finasteride is harmful to women. I'm sure I saw something online about the need to always use protection when having sex if you're taking it. Is this true?

OP, I don't have the links to the following but there is information available from credible studies or Merck that say the following: Women should not take finasteride or touch broken tablets because it can cause birth defects in make fetuses, no need to wear a condom because of taking finasteride (plenty of other reasons though) and finasteride at 1 mg can cause gyno but that is not common.
