Hi, im a first time poster, my name is Bob and i am 19 years old.. i cut my hair really short about a month ago and noticed that it is fairly thinner in front than the top and sides.. my hair line has also receded some.. but i think that is just natural mature recession.. i am happy with the way it looks right now (fairly anyway) and would really love it if i could keep it as is.. but i do have history of hairloss in my familly (father and uncle, not grand father on moms side), so i would like to be safe and not sorry. So I started using Rogaine 5% a few days ago (and yes it is a lil itchy) but after reading the forums i get the impression that its best to take propecia / proscar instead first.. at least for maitenence.. im not too worried or in a hurry, considering both father and uncle didnt start to bald until they were in their thirties.. but i would like to know the best way to approach this situation, and nip it in the butt.. before it nips me. (da da daaaa).. heh.. anyway.. thx for hearing me out.. and any advice would be much much appreciated..

Start with proscar and then ADD minoxidil. If you just jump on everything you won't know whats working and whats not. I think finasteride is the base to any regimine.

cool.. i'd like to know some more peoples opinions before i go talk to the doctor, because i know that he wont even think of anything unless i suggest it first.. and hes a dermatologist. So it'd be good to get a little more feed back, thanks..

As you're not experiencing rapid loss, and you say you'd be happy to just maintain your hair, I'd also suggest starting with Proscar and giving it about a year to assess its efficacy before adding other treatments.
