Wait. You're likely to have some reactions - ie. shed and affected libido - in the first month but you should get through them. No use taking something if you don't need it.

My shedding stopped after 1 month of starting finasteride and I had a mild ball ache for the first few days but that's it. finasteride has been semi-effective for me and has just slowed my hair loss. I noticed a decrease in effectiveness after 11 months but mild regrowth before that.
Eventually the regrowth stopped and my hairline regressed half in inch on my temples or so. So I guess the drug has helped a bit because I'd likely be worse if I hadn't started taking it. My hairloss was progressing extremely fast before the drug and within 1 year of it starting I was getting diffuse thinning and while the diffuse hairs haven't thickened much at all they are still there. It still looks bad when I don't shave my head to a fade though because the sides and back are thicker.
