Hi Guys,

So earlier this year my friends told me they noticed a small dot on my crown and that it doesn't look like its thinning/balding. However, last week I noticed that my crown has looked like it has thinned a little bit more (observe pic #1). Now, does this necessarily mean male pattern baldness? the reason i question this is because growing up, I have had a multiple small bald spots (some on the sides, top of my head, and on the crown).

Also, over the last 6-7 months, I had to deal with dandruff and itchy scalp, did this have an effect on my crown? I have been using neutrogena t/gel the last week, and somehow, I don't know why, but I am feeling like I lost some more hair off my crown. Can dandruff really effect hair growth on one's head?

Anyways guys the pics are below for you to see.

Pic 1 was taken after combing my hair

Pic 2 was taken immediately after waking up (to give you the idea of how it looks uncombed)

Pic 3 was taken immediately after a shower (it made it look like there was no problem with my crown)

Am I being too paranoid about this, or should something be done?

Any comments or suggestions would be greatly appreciated

Thanks in advance!

that's early male pattern baldness, start finasteride only and you should be good longterm. See a hair transplant doctor preferably for a finasteride script and/or an official diagnosis, or if not a hair transplant doctor see a dermatologist. You can also buy finasteride online without a script.

Thanks for the response, there's one thing I forgot to mention, I went to go see a doctor yesterday because I have been having trouble sleeping due to allergic reactions. I mentioned my thinning crown, he told me to wait a little bit longer and monitor it and then he would prescribe propecia to stop it.

The reason he told me to wait was because, he said that this does not necessarily mean male pattern baldness, it may just stop.

Also correct me if I'm wrong but, if I do use finasteride, wouldn't I have to use it for a significant long time? Otherwise if I stop using it, the regrown hair goes away? So it's basically use finasteride all my life.

you will have to use it for as long as you want to keep your hair. If you don't think it's worth it to take a pill every day that costs a few cents, then you can play Russian roulette and just hope your hair loss doesn't progress by chance.

Doctors besides hair transplant doctors are usually pretty conservative with male pattern baldness diagnoses. However, crown loss in your 20s is not a good sign at all and usually means you are headed for nw6 or 7

@paulie72785 just started using nizoral shampoo. My hair is feeling a lot better and started to scratch my hair a lot less (although I'm still scratching somewhat). Will continue to monitor this and hope I don't lose much more hair. Thanks!

Looks like its been burned by inflammation!!! Try some Ketaconazole for the inflammatio

I believe that was exactly it. My case of dandruff was pretty bad and also lasted a significant amount of time. Just started using nizoral shampoo 2 days ago. My hair does not itch as much anymore nor does it show any dandruff. Hopefully my crown can grow back healthier like before the dandruff 4 months ago.

Any prognosis on what happens to my crown now or what I can expect? Thanks again!

nizoral will not stop male pattern baldness let alone reverse it.
