Doctor noticed I have visible male pattern baldness in crown. It itches quite a lot right here, and I will just say I had this bad itch for many many years I always thought it was male pattern baldness years ago. I asked about propecia if he thought it was safe, and if he prescribed. He said he has, but it doesnt work. He said its an anti T. and he himself would have tried it. Maybe in a subtle way he was saying I shouldnt use it. He advised rogain instead, but I have my doubts its going to do a whole lot. I did use it for a while didnt see much results.
Should I try something like keeps and try propecia anyway on my own? Or should I schedule derm appt. and have them do some blood tests related to male pattern baldness before starting it? Do it on my own, see a derm and his advice like miniturization tests or blood work first, or follow GP and dont try it?
At 35 years old I dont see many other things it could be. Im not gonna bother with pictures, but trust me its very visible male pattern baldness no doubt about it I got comments from a few other people. I just worry a lot about sides like many others I like my hormones and my health.

finasteride works much better than minoxidil and minoxidil should never be used without finasteride in conjunction. But if I were you I'd just get on finasteride and not bother with minoxidil.

Forgive my surprise but I wouldn't have expected a member of nearly 14 years would be asking whether he should or shouldn't jump on finasteride.

Fair enough, but I joined this many moons ago. Just to see what the options were back then knowing I had very little hair loss and tons of time still. I had a prescription for finasteride maybe 8 years ago, and decided it wasnt worth it I still had most of my hair, and it was very expensive 60 bucks a month at the time before the patent expired. So I decided to skip finasteride not worth the risks
Maybe I just wondered do I see a derm for bloodwork before starting? Or do I go a web site like keeps and just start it on my own? Im pretty convinced I do need to try it, but I get a little worried going against a doctors advice. He knew it was an AA, but he said it basically didnt work. He never really answered whether it was safe or not and he was hesitant I think to prescribe it.
You would be amazed how little changed in the last 14 years. I know my options, but how to best go about them?

Doctors aren't God and they often have differences of opinion. Finasteride is the most effective treatment (along with dutasteride) known to man so far.
