Guys, like you will all prob agree, there are good hair loss days and bad hairloss days. Think today is a bad one. Been on finasteride for 9months and my hair doesnt seem to have changed. I dont think I have lost hair (well not a noticable amount at least) and I havent gained (or not that i can see), basically do you think I could gain over the next 3 months (up to the 12 month on finasteride) or will it typically stay the same?

What are peoples experiences? Also If I add minoxidil 2X daily will it really be worth it in the long run in terms of noticable results seeing as I have maintained on finasteride alone so far?

I was in exactly same position, was on 1 mg propecia, prescription from Doctor, started in june 05, got to february 06 and didnt see any kind of sign of improvement so i thought id go off the advice off the board and start minoxidil 5%, the kirkland stuff and also the 5 mg generic finpecia which i cut into quarters and take daily, this was because of cost reasons, best decision ive ever made, started this new regime feb 15th this year, took about a month before my shedding noticeably slowed down, still have shedding now but no where near what i used to, another month after this my hair was noticeably much darker, it seems to be getting darker and thicker now all the time but will wait and see, its only been 2 and half months on new regime, over the last month have also been taking multi-vitmain, kelp and zinc tablet once a day. I would say if you want re-growth you will have to start the minoxidil as well as the propecia and give it a couple of months, im glad i did.

it's good that you're maintaining on Propecia. The highest hair counts in Propecia were measured between 12-24 months. 9 months is some time, but it should generally be given AT LEAST 12 months before you make any decision on whether or not Propecia is working for you or not.

Can you make substantial hair gains later with Propecia treatment?

Certainly. Only further treatment will tell.

Is it worth it, in the long run, to use minoxidil with your finasteride treatment?

Yes. Minoxidil works synergistically with Propecia to create optimal results. Minoxidil will help to cosmetically halt further progression, help maintain existing follicles and strengthen them, and initiate new hair growth.

In my opinion, minoxidil should be a part of every serious hair loss battler's regimen.

Do you use Nizoral (ketoconazole) shampoo? If not, you should. Ketoconazole, the active ingredient, in the shampoo, has been proven in several studies to have anti-androgenic properties, which help to promote new hair growth. There are many added benefits to using Nizoral, which include treating the inflammatory response which is a result of male pattern baldness, as well as cleaning the scalp, thereby allowing for optimal results. IT'S A MUST. Try rotating Nizoral with T/Gel and some other shampoos.

I know that battling hairloss can be confusing, time-consuming, expensive, and emotionally difficult.

Our best approach to this day is to use the Big 3.

Propecia (finasteride), Rogaine (minoxidil), Nizoral (ketoconazole).

The are proven.

They work.

You will only benefit from these treatments.

My personal advice is to continue with Propecia treatment, add minoxidil, use Nizoral shampoo along with T/Gel (etc. etc.), maybe add a copper peptide--

and lastly, enjoy your results within the next year.

Im on nizoral already, I only ask as many people who seem to react very positively to finasteride seem to gain some noticable results in the months 3-9. Thanks for your replies guys. Any other ideas, gonna add minoxidil, what is the best copper peptide? Tricomin looks quite expensive....

I personally use American Crew Revitalize Spray.

It's smells nice, works well on your hair, effective, and half the price of Tricommin.

Do what I do,

add 1 application of 5% minoxidil a day, this will help regrow a bit of hair and that way not only is it more convenient and cheaper than twice a day, but you have somewhere to go when the meds start to lose their effecicney.

Remember this is a long term battle, you don't want to waste all your resources straight away!
