Its been 3 days since my hair transplant and I'm REAL CONFUSED...

This is my situation at the moment...

I'm on my 3rd day post op after a mere 100 grafts to the left hairline area... Donor hair was taken from just above my right ear (and its real painful at the moment.. I had a preivous 200 grafts taken from the same area 1 year ago)

Now here's the confusing bit...

My doctor told me that I could shower normally the day after the procedure. He gave me antiseptic lotion shampoo to dab onto the grafts, but the fact that he said it was ok to put my head under the shower was surprising since everyone on this forum said to wait at least 5 days before putting your head under the shower...

He also told me that I can resume gym training after 1 week.. I emphasised that I lift heavy weights in my gym routine (around 280 lbs to 300lbs bench press and heavy bicep curls) and he said its fine and I should have no problems doing whatever I wanted to do after 1 week.. Now, I've read from the posts written on this forum one should wait from anywhere to 2 weeks to 6 months before even thinking about going for a little jog..

I don't know who to listen to... It makes sense to take the conservative road but 6 months sounds waaay too long... I was thinking like 2 weeks... The doctor telling me 1 week is enough just doesn't sound right to me, but then again he is a doctor so he should know best right?

Any advice would be very much appreciated... Thanks!

hey omarshari, my dr told me that i could and should shower the next day but not to let the shower water hit directly on the head. they suggest to mix water and shampoo in a cup with luke warm water and then gentle poor it over your head. then rinse the same way. do this for a few weeks before actually letting the shower water hit your head. as far as working out goes, i would be a little conservative and wait at least a month before you hit the heavy weights. i am just 1 day post op with 1500 grafts. man, thank god for pain killers!

good luck

I've been doing the pouring warm water over the head technique for the past 3 days despite the doctor telling me its ok to just shower normally... I think the general consensus here is that after 8 days the grafts are locked in place and there is no way to damage them, so I'll start showering normally after 8 days I guess...?

I've done as much research in regards to the gym thing as I can possibly do, and still not too sure about it... I think at least one month sounds right, but then again I've read people getting 3000+ grafts doing heavy sets within 2 weeks of their surgery..

A rep of Dr. Armani stressed to me in an e-mail a month after teh surgery that i do not lift any weights. He didn't say when i could start though. Maybe in another e-mail to come?

A male nurse of his recommend pouring water over the head, maybe for two weeks? But i didn't wait that long. I have a light shower spray, i waited about 10 days before letting some water from the shower head hit my transplant area.

You can start doing light exercise (slow, controlled, lighter weights in a position that does not stress the stitches) a week after surgery. You need to be careful for 3 months, and can do moderate to heavier weights as long as you are very careful not to stress that skin. Move deliborately enough that you can stop in time if you feel any tension.

The grafts need 8 days, not 5.

Omar- Do you have a baseball bat? Because any a-hole that is stripping you for 100 or two grafts at a time is a quack-

I get the feeling I made a mistake doing hair transplant at all sometimes, but its done now so I'm not gonna mull over it... Just gotta hope the finasteride holds...

I got pretty good coverage everywhere so 300 in total was all I was recommended for to fix my left hairline...

I can't wait till the scabs come off and I'm able to return to my normal life... hair transplant has really messed up my routine (especially gym) and its very frustrating..

I was given dissolving sutures for the donor area and it feels REALLY BUMPY.. I hope I can pull them off as soon as possible cos its very painful..

Omar,

Your hair will continue to receed. I was told back before I had the internet to research that finasteride would keep me from ever losing another hair. Its receeded very slowly over the past decade. You need to use nizoral and minoxidil up front to attempt to slow it. You might also consider a copper peptide product also.

Finasteride usually adds haircounts for two years, and then every year after that haircounts lessen. Youre balding, but slowly. Pehaps delaying the inevtable by a few decades, but you do get there. Docs will perform little surgeries like yours because NOW YOURE HOOKED like a drug addict and will have to get more in about 6-7 more years I'd imagine as the normal hair receeds behind the plugs if you just use finasteride alone. The nizoral a few days a week (not everyday, thats bad for it) and the minoxidil should see you keep it up longer. If you ever get off finasteride you will lose all the hair you would have lost without it in less than two years-------as bald as you would have been. But now you have donor scars or a big long donor scar, and bumpy skin up front with big fat donor hairs in them, so shaving may not be an option for you anymore. Do you see your dilemma more closely now?

Stay on the meds, pull for the cloning researchers to come up with a product before they lose ground on you. As close as Hair Multiplication is supposed to be, you might be OK as they will be able to fix you up in some years time if that works out like it should........................but Ive learned in the hair game to never count chickens before they hatch. I remember reading an article back in 89 saying hairloss would be conquered by the beginnng of the new millennium with a pill. That, from what I know of the male pattern baldness androgen-initiated-immunological process now, is impossible. Good luck

Thats what I'm gunning for Mike, hold for about 10-15 years and hope that HM will be on the market by then...

I'm planning to add proxiphen to my regime so hopefully that keeps my right hairline (the side without hair transplant) will hold..

One things for sure, I'm never doing another strip procedure EVER... It wasn't a good experience... I wasn't sedated (I declined it because I thought I didn't need it), and the doctor didn't give me enough local anesthetic to my donor area so I felt the full force of the scalpel dig into my skin and slicing my scalp out..

As for my questions, based on the general consensus of the replies, I'm planning on showering normally on Saturday (which makes it 10 days post-op) and going to hit the gym doing moderate sets next Friday (2 weeks and 2 days post-op)..

Thanks for all the advice!
