Itchy and Scratchy

So, I've read this:
http://www.hairlosstalk.com/newsletter/article252.htm

It says that itchy scalp is bad for hair growth, but I'd like to know whether that's because you're scratching (causing damage to the follicles?), or whether the itching itself is the "root" of the problem.

Basically, if it itches, am I ok to scratch it?

It probably itches for a reason (some form of unhealthy scalp), so you shouldn't scratch it. Scratching would just irritate it, make it bleed, and just worsen the condition overall. You should probably find out how to fix your itch, perhaps using T/Gel, T/Sal, Nizoral, or some other shampoo that is good for the scalp.

I'm using Nizoral 1% and Progaine currently, and thinking about switching in T/Gel for the Progaine...

Let me ask this another way...
Even if one didn't have an itchy scalp, could scratching one's head (I tend to do that when I'm thinking, reading, etc) lead to hair loss?

How do you guys that use T-Sal like it? Would you reccommend adding it into the arsenal of shampoos like T-gel and nizoral?

Nah, I don't think that'd be a problem. Everybody scratches their hair at some point. If there's no itch, ust do it within reason -- i.e. don't make it bleed or scratch it incessantly.

A little scratching here and there wont hurt. But constantly scratching could aggrivate irritation.

If nizoral isnt doing the trick, try using Folligen or Tricomin

Let me rephrase my question. I understand T-Sal is a good shampoo for irritation but my question is: Do you think it would be beneficial for me to add it into my regimen of shampoos which already include T-Gel and Nizoral? Or is that overkill?

badasshairday,

If your scalp is itch-free and you don't really have any irritation, why change your regime? Personally, I use T/Gel Shampoo everyday. Nizoral is too rough on my hair -- dries/thins it out. Sometimes, I use T/Gel Conditioner, which contains sal. acid like T/Sal. Give that a shot after using T/Gel if you want. It's good stuff.

1. After shampooing, I use Suave Perfomance Series 2-Minute Recovery Deep Conditioner. Then rinse. Then use Suave Professionals Awapuhi Conditioner, which works as a leave-in treatment.

2. Twice a week, I use Aveda Scalp Remedy, also a leave-in treatment. But don't use it right after Nizoral since together they are too strong.

3. Once a day I massage the scalp with the Tingler.

Anyone else tried these products? I'm not sure I can feel comfortable purchasing something called the Tingler

Just wanted to give an update.
I just started using T/Gel, and after 1 day, I don't feel itchy at all. We'll see if this continues for the long run...

Thanks!

this all just shows that we are different in the way we respond to stuff.

T-Gel made my head red, lumpy, flakey and itchy when I first used it! :freaked:

this all stopped straight away when I discontinued usage.

But I must have acclimatised to it as it causes no problems now.
