Before I start, a little background info.
I’m 18, male, and I do have OCD & often obsess about many things - hair loss being one of them. As far as genetics go? Well, I believe male pattern baldness does run in the family, however, I don’t think it would come around until very late in life. My father, 44, has his hairline intact with no signs of recession as far as I know. My paternal and maternal uncle, both in their early 40’s I believe, still have their hairlines intact, also with no signs of recession that I know, same goes for my older parental cousin, late 30’s to early 40’s. He has somewhat of a widow’s peak but it’s been that way for a few years and hasn’t changed at all as far as I know. My older half brother (parental), 22, has told my mom before that he’s growing the top out a bit because he’s losing hair in his temple area, but his hairline’s still very well intact. My maternal and paternal grandfathers have receding hairlines. My maternal grandpa is 77 and still pretty much has most of his hair, I believe. You can tell the top is very thin and you can easily see his scalp but he still has a decent amount of hair there, I’d say. My paternal grandpa is 61 and has the same hairline as my dad and uncle, I think. It could be receded in the front area but I’m not entirely sure. However, he has a big bald spot where his crown would be and that’s how I know he’s going bald.
So, with that being said, even if I’m definitely going to go bald one day, I don’t think I would be starting now since I barely turned 18 2 months ago and the older males on both sides of my family, with the exception of my grandfathers, have their hairlines pretty well intact with no signs (that I know of) of recession.
The issue right now though is my crown. Admittedly, I don’t really pay much attention to it. I didn’t start acknowledging my crown until a year ago (Jan 5 2017) when my barber gave me a bad haircut and faded my hair too high, giving me a crop fade rather than the usual low fade. I don’t know if this had to do with that, but I know that, when growing, it’d sort of look a bit patchy, like there were a few bald spots or so, as it grew. I’d touch the back of my head often and as my hair grew later on in the year, I’d noticed how thin my hair was at the crown area and how I could feel my scalp there. It bothered me but not too much as I convinced myself it must’ve been from getting that bad haircut. However, after today, I’m almost convinced that it’s like this because I’m losing hair and now I’m paranoid. I’m conflicted because I don’t want to go bald, especially not at my current age, I would hate life like that, but I also don’t want to have to take some medication every day just to keep my hair and if I stopped, then I’d lose it.
Anyways, here’s some pics of the crown. I don’t know if some of the pics are of the crown or if it’s just a part but just in case, I’m going to post them anyway.
