Is there anything that can be done to save my temples?

I have post on here before asking about a hair transplant that I never went though with but you might remember.

Anyhow I am 27 years old and have been *VERY SLOWLY* receeding since I was in high school. Right now I'm about a NW1 or so and I don't believe I will ever go full bald (NW6) if I have this much hair at 27, coupled with the fact that it doesn't really seem like I'm losing much hair anymore. I will probably receed a bit more to a solid NW2 or so but I doubt much more than that. I could be wrong though.

Anyhow after visiting doctor Umar I decided to wait a few years first to see how much my hair changes. If I look the same in about 3 years time I'm just going to go with a full hairline/temple restore with about 800-100 grafts or so with FUE.

But for now, I am noticing that even though my temples have receeded I still have hair growing there but it doesn't grow thick. It's very spare but the full temple is there. Is there anything I can do for now that can restore it? Or at least make it thicker?

Here are some high quality pics:

by the way, click the pictures to see the full zoom in so you can fully see the amount of hairs that are still left. Quite a few still growing.

man, im gunna be the first of many to say just go with nizoral and propecia. i wouldnt use minoxidil on a hairline thats still that strong and personally i definitely wouldnt even think about an hair transplant. 99% sure you'll never even get a bald spot if youve still got that much hair at 27 and if it does develop to anything even mildly noticeable by anyone who doesn't focus on the hairline 24/7 (ie. a hair loss victim) then maybe go for it then. but really, you look just fine.

I don't think you are norwood 1, I think you are already a norwood 2. However you are in a great position with plenty of hair for you age. I would do some rogaine asap, you might not even need a hair transplant. When I was younger and my hairloss was less aggressive, rogaine gave me a ruler straight hairline and I had a very sharp line up. However if you choose not to do rogaine, I think you are a great candidate for a hair transplant in the future. 1000 fue should give a nice straight norwood 1. However then if you start losing more hair you might have to get on propecia, or get another hair transplant so just something to think about.

I have decided against rogaine/propecia for the simple fact that I don't want to become a slave to it at the risk of all of my hair falling out. I am happy with the amount of hair I have right now and I don't want to risk f*****g it up with either of those since once you start taking your hair will fall out if you ever stop. That kind of product isn't for me. I rather do a hair transplant or just live with NW2. Like I said hopefully I don't progress much more than this and I am hopeful because of my age.

Why wouldn't you do a hair transplant, at say, 30, if you're just a NW2? I would only have it done by a world class doctor (Umar) and it will be FUE. Why not get the razor sharp hairline back when there is little risk (IMO) of balding much more?

I might be a NW2 I don't know. My hairline doesn't seem that bad. Small gaps on the left and right but nothing too extreme.

If you look at this picture:

I look more like the first norwood than the second. For some reason my temples got raped a lot more than my hairline. Kinda sucks but I still have hair growing their in the pictures and trying to see if there is somethign I can do about it besides the rogaine/propecia type products. Maybe some kind of lotion/shampoo/experimental drug or something.

hair transplant is definately in the future for me in a few years. I'm just waiting it out to see how much more my male pattern baldness progresses.

You look like the Norwood 2 pic from the side but you look like the norwood 1 pic from the above view.

Yeah I would agree with that. Anyhow my classification isn't important, I was just interested in seeing if there was anything I could do to make my temples look better. I may just grow my hair out without any kind of line ups to see how much my temples grow in after a few months.

Trust me, rogaine could work wonders. I'm not black but I'm Puerto Rican from NY and shape ups are important to me to. No offense to anyone but I think 99% of the guys here are white and don't know about line ups and how important it is to minorities to have a straight hairline. They just want hair and don't care if their hairline is curved if the rest of the hair is thick. I was so upset when my hairline wasn't straight anymore, but I used rogaine and it kept it straight again for years. Use if for about 3-4 months and DO NOT get any line ups for that time. Then when you go to your barber, you will have a fresh fresh line up, you will find that your hairline got way better. Thats how it was for me at least when I first tried it. After a while though it didn't work as good. Try it!!! You can thank me later.

urmm, you won't lose all your hair if you come off. youll just lose what you saved or gained from taking the meds. in other words, youll be back at square one.

Thats not what I heard at all. From what I understand you lose much more hair that you would have once you stop.

if you don't get on rogain or propecia you'll be shaving your head every day anyway, so you're a slave no matter what.

Is it possible to only apply rogaine to the temples and hairline where the hair is weak/thining (the areas in the pictures in the OP)?

If I do start using rogaine I would only want to apply them to the temples/hairline and not my entire head. Thats way if/when I stop using it my entire head of hair won't fall out, only the hair where it was weak to begin with. That why I'm only risking hair that will be easy to fill in with a low graft transplant.

Yes you can only apply where the hair loss is obvious. But rogaine will not effect healthy hair regardless.

Why are there so many stories about hair falling out after rogaine use stops?

I think I'm going to give rogaine a try for a few months and see if it helps. I'll post some progress pics.

The hair that falls out, is the hair the new hair that it helped you grow.

Damn, this thing says you have to apply it twice a day, which I assume means morning and night. I can manage that on the weekdays but Im not even sure I can be consistant with that on the weekends. I go out partying a lot and often times not even home saturday mornings. I also go camping sometimes on the weekend.

How do people manage to be consistant with this?

There's also a thread in the Side Effects section where people have reported premature ageing i.e. wrinkles.
