Is less aggressive hair loss easier to treat?

I started on finasteride (proscar, 1.25mg) today, and like everybody else, am curious about how well it is going to work for me.

I know everybody is different, but I was wondering is less aggressive hairloss generally more likely to be treated than aggressive hair loss?

I had an insanely thick head of hair right up until I was around 25, then slow recession at the temples started. I am almost 29 now, and a NW2 with slight thinning at the crown. I still have fairly thick hair, but am starting to go noticeably bald, which is the reason i'm starting on finasteride right away.

I notice from this forum that younger guys with aggressive hair loss that hits them at around 18-22 usually don't have as much success with finasteride as guys with mild to moderate, slowly progressing hairloss. Is this just a trend I am noticing, or is there any truth to it?

Interesting question. I have often wondered if a person who has inherited balding from both parents has more agressive loss than one who inherited from one parent or less for a more distant paternal grandfater.

Yeah, I think hair loss is inherited from both of your parents equally, since every male on my dads side is at least a NW4, and every male on my moms side is at most a NW2.. But I digress.

I am hopeful that finasteride works for me; a bit of thickening is really the most I am hoping for, but if I can maintain what I have for the next 10 years, I will be a happy camper! I suppose going bald at almost 30 isn't too bad.

Hairloss is a complex issue. I read a thread a couple weeks ago regarding hair type in relation to bald non balding relatives and if there was a correlation. It appears there is.
My fater began losing hair in mid 20s as did my brother with similar hair. Myself and youngest brother have hair like our maternal grandfather NW1 at 80. I began to thin slightly at age 37 and expect my youngest brother to do the same. I took quick action and remain NW1 with the "big three"
