Is It Possible To Have "selective" Telogen Effluvium?

I've been a great responder to Minoxidil, but oddly enough, it's mostly only helping at the temples. This comes as a surprise to me because usually people say it works best at crown. It's the mid-scalp where I'm not seeing much help, as well as the center of my frontal region.

So what I'm wondering is if it's possible for my temple loss to have been the result of Telogen Effluvium (hence its improvement), but my frontal/midscalp area is experience regular old male pattern baldness? Or is it possible I'm just not applying the minoxidil correctly? It's just weird, given how much I've heard about the opposite experience with where minoxidil helps regrowth.
