Is it normal for hair on the sides and back to change?

I'm pretty sure I'm going through male pattern baldness due to the stong genetic predisposition in my family but I also have been shedding, on the sides and back of my head. It is not as bad as the amount of hair I'm shedding on top, I'd say it's about 40-50% less shedding than I'm experiencing on top. As a result of this it feels like my hair is changing texture all over. Is it common to shed on the sides and back?

Are you taking meds like finasteride. If so, then yes.....

I'm not taking finasteride, only been using spironolactone, minoxidil, and Azelaic Acid 2x a day for 2 weeks and I rub it on the top of my head.
