I did this for a month a couple of years ago and was told by trichologist that it's a bad thing to do.
It's the percentage of Minoxidil contained in the solution, not the amount of solution you put on, and since it's alcohol based you run the risk of putting too much alcohol on the scalp, which is not good.
You'd be better to use a formula with a higher percentage of Minoxidil rather than put on more applications.
That's not true, at least as far as standard Rogaine-type vehicles are concerned. Regardless of whether you apply 2% Rogaine or 5% Rogaine, they BOTH end up as saturated solutions of minoxidil in propylene glycol. Only the quantity of that saturated propylene glycol solution is different.

See the other thread in this forum about "Rogaine eating the hairline". I discuss the evidence showing that alcohol isn't harmful to scalp hair follicles in the typical doses that are used in hairloss topicals.
Bryan do you think if someone used minoxidil 5% once a day for 1 year then switched to 2%b once daily he would keep what he gained from 5%? Or are those hairs dependant on 5% minoxidil?
