It's not essential. Some find it helps with the inflammatory (itchy) component of male pattern baldness. It's anti-fungal and a mild anti-inflammatory, and ketoconazole is actually a very mild anti-androgen, competing with DHT for androgen receptors, and it's also been shown to degrade the androgen receptor itself. So generally regarded as a helpful albeit rather weak addition to any hairloss regimen, since it's so easy to use. But you're right, some people find it thins/dries out their hair too much.
One thing to keep in mind with these shampoos is that they're designed to treat the hair and scalp, and not designed and not to be used for cosmetic purposes, hence why they can give that 'thin' look to hair since they don't add any volume to hair.
The thing with Nizoral is that it's an anti-dandruff shampoo to be used twice weekly for a maximum period of eight weeks and then to discontinue the use of the product, if I remember correctly. Nizoral isn't a shampoo designed for hair loss purposes. Regenepure DR which I myself use daily is designed for hair loss purposes, and contains 1% Ketoconazole just like Nizoral. Their conditioner is hit or miss though for me, haven't decided on if I like it much.
Well I would assume considering they market their stuff for hair loss that the conditioner would be good for it, I mean it sounds good at least - the ingredient profile isn't bad at all and still doesn't have SLS but its just so inconsistent. Some days it looks great but others really dry.Yeah I don't use their conditioner, I need a super-moisturising conditioner after using any Keto shampoo.
