i read a book called the bald truth a while ago..most people know of it.. it's by spencer kobren..who has his own show discussing hairloss on sundays..which you can listen to at http://www.wwrl1600.com/player.asp at 11 o clock pm eastern..u.s. time. it has a lot of good info through research..i'm basically doing this to help new people..a lot of you will go on and say..tell us what we don't know,..but this is just me trying to help people..not promoting his show because he gets nothing out of it..he's non profit..he just does it to help people. here is some useful info on treatments you may want to consider as well as what foods to avoid
treatments to consider :
propecia (or proscar cut in 4ths), minoxidil
you can use neutrogena t gel intensive anti flake gel for any dandruff problems you may have fromminoxidil..that is if the dandruff problem is severe.. otherwise shampoos like nizoral, head and shoulders, etc..will do
if you want to use conditioner, use it before you shampoo your hair
natural treatments (not a miracle drug, but they do help..i don't have time to post the info on each one, but taking them does improve the quality, etc.. of your hair and slows down the hairloss process..i take saw palmetto, pygeum and stnging nettle..as well as zinc..myself..along with proscar and minoxidil) :
saw palmetto - take 2 softgels per day..each pill should be 160 mg. and should say 85 to 95 percent fatty acids and sterols
green tea
pygeum - take between 60 and 500 mg..sterol count must be 13% or it's useless. you can increase it's effects by taking stinging nettle (50 to 100 mg a day) with it
zinc picolinate
essential fatty acids (2 times a day) - black currant oil, sunflower oil, linseed oil, etc..
ho shou wu
what to eat and what to stay away from :
eat lots of fruits, vegetables, beans
don't eat potatoes, pasta or bread on a regular basis
stay away from alcohol, caffeine, and nicotine (you don't need me to tell you that)
best concealers - couvre, dermmatch and toppik (i prefer couvre)..
i will have more info for the new guys if requested..but i'll post only this for now just in case i'm doing it for nothing.. i've been able to keep my hair for 5 years..it's been slowly going, but i can still hide it
so i'm happy.. if any mods want to make this a sticky..it wouldn't be that bad of an idea..people here can ask the veteran board members questions in this thread..
