Increased Sebum On Finasteride A Bad Sign?

Hi all,

I have recently started finasteride 1mg for diffused thinning, and to try and help the awful itch throughout my scalp. 2 months in no change but hoping this will soon change once shedding calms.
I have noticed though my hair becomes very oily by the end of the day, and by the morning my hair looks shiny/wet and see through. Wash my hair daily so it’s not an issue but I wanted to ask people with experience is this extra production of sebum a bad thing for my hair and DHT attacking the hair externally not just internally. I never had this oily hair before starting Finasteride.

Should this be of concern?

Never took finasteride, but I can give you some advice. Have you talked to your doctor? You should definitely pay him a visit. Also, there are anti-sebum shampoos on the market, but don't use them too often (maybe 2-3 times a week max). I have an oily scalp too (I'm a teenager, 17), and it has helped me quite a bit.
Also, don't want to scare you, but keep in mind that finasteride tinkers with your endocrine system, so maybe that has something to do with it. You could also wait, but I highly advise you seek a specialist, this way, you will have a chance of knowing what actually goes on in your body that causes that sebum. Hope it helps, and don't just disregard this because I'm 17. I've taken my fare share of biology classes

When I started finasteride in March my hair did get oily very fast. I'd wash it in the morning and by bed time it'd be greasy looking. I stuck with finasteride and now I can go 3 days without my hair getting oily. I might be able to go longer but I wouldn't know, I won't go that long without washing my hair. It took until July to notice the decrease in sebum.

I use nizoral once a week btw, and I cut greasy fried foods out of my diet. I don't know if that helped.
