I am 29 and have always had very thick hair. I lost quite a bit of hair in the same area about 9yrs ago and used minoxidil for a few months and grew it back and stopped and was fine. I noticed that same thing recently and when I got a short hair cut was horrified to see my a noticeable spot. This was two weeks ago. When I took a pic from the top of was utterly devastated since I never had any warning of such a profuse loss.

I posted a picture from a week ago and a picture from yesterday. My bald spot has noticeable hair growth everywhere within a week where is now barely noticeable. The hair loss was also very sudden and I have no hair line regression. My dad and both grandfathers were bald early but my mom's four brothers have full heads of hair into their 60s. I have always had low testosterone and thyroid issues.

I started using minoxidil again once per day, I used a derma roller 1.5mm once/which I had prior, I took d limonene since I read it was a DHT blocker and use Rosemary oil at night. I washed my hair with Nizoral about 3 times 1%. I ordered Propecia in case however now I do not think I need it...

My hair shed suddenly, it has now grown back literally in a week suddenly (not fully but significantly). I was using ephedrine, yohombine, nicotine gum and caffeine to lose weight which I did lose about 40lbs recently and stopped due to the hair loss and I was hypothyroid to the point of losing my outer eye brow hair which I am now taking Armour for for about a month.

Is it normal to have AA and have hair grow back so suddenly? Or is this truly Telogen Effluvium?

To add on the bald spot you can feel little hairs all growing over it which has darkened the area. I just don't understand how it fell out so suddenly and then can grow back so suddenly unless all the weight loss drugs and thyroid issue just caused my hair to fall out.

looks like AA. post pics of your hairline aswell

I always had a high hairline which made my forehead look big. I have not noticed any recession of this. Obviously the top I did.

Yes. Looks definetly like AA. finasteride is your only choice now

Um...I thank you for your input even though I disagree finasteride is the only choice. But I did order it just in case the hair stops growing in on the top.

what are you doing? your hairline is fading away mate

My hairline has not receded, it looks the same as it did when I was 16. It has always been high which is why I never wear my hair pushed back. I was basing it more on the crown and vertex and the sudden loss vs sudden growth and if this is normal or if it was Telogen Effluvium.

Can you show us a pic of your hair when you were 16? I'm not trying to be rude but you seem in denial. I was aswell at first. It is better if you actually address the issue rather than deny it.

Your hairline and hair on top definetly looks thin. I have a hard time believing you've had this hair for 13 years straight. Therefore it has receded.

People that are homeless and deficient still have amazing hair. 99% of the time Telogen Effluvium is ruled out of the equation because it is most likely AA. Because of that, I highly doubt that you have Telogen Effluvium. If you do have Telogen Effluvium, it would make no sense since you're balding like the Norwood Chart.

So it is normal for someone to lose hair rapidly and then grow all the hair back rapidly in AA? This is mainly what I am asking, not if my forehead is receding which it isn't at this time.

I'm not sure what you mean by grow back rapidly? Where has it grown out rapidly? Your first two pictures had different lightning, which is probably the only reason to as why you think it has grown out rapidly. Take two pictures in the same lightning if you want to compare

You are not reading what I am typing. Again, thank you for your input.

Your case is a bit complex.. im nowhere near a expert... but you need to take better pictures (same lighting and room).

Most of these guys will tell you to hop on finasteride... and say its male pattern baldness.

Talk to a dermatologist, i really cant say much else.

Good luck good sir.
