In All Seriousness, A Question about My Situation

Beloved posters of the HairLossTalk.com forum,

I request your humble opinions of my current situation.

So deeply am I concerned with your opinions that I make the following post.

First, I will give you the fact that both sides of my family have receeded to Norwood 4/5 level. It hasn't surpassed this point, EVER, in my family history, and I honestly agree that it won't.

Second, I am using dutasteride and 5% minoxidil, which has stopped my hairloss, and I am slowly maintaining.

My questions to my forum members, with much gratitude, are:

(1) Will I be able to have the appearance of a decent head of hair?

(2) How long can I expect to maintain these results?

(3) If I were to have a hairline transplant with Dr. Alvi Armani, can I expect to have a decent head of hair?

(4) Do you think I will eventually bald to a degree of Norwoodc 4/5 if I stay on treatments indefinitely (for many decades) ?

Again, thank you all very much for your honest input. I have no doubt that you will give me your honesty, and I will respect every opinion that follows.

I think everything will turn out just great, though I think you should add some grapeseed extract and some apple poly capsules to your minoxidil for good luck. Just add to one of them, in case the minoxidil is made less effective by the extracts. Then buy SD40B alcohol and add it to your other minoxidil to make 2.5% for almost half the cost, so $4 a month. Apply that one in the day time, since it will dry faster, but empty a few borageseed capsules into so the ethanol does not defat the skin. The borage seed oil will fight inflammation too. These will last you a long time and reduce the cost of your regimen. You can also save money by substituting grapefruit or its juice for one of your daily fruits. That will up your dutasteride blood levels, or you can take 5 instead of 7 and still probably get the effects of 7.

Even if i don't know as much as some, I'll give it a shot... I'm procrastinating on the internet at the moment...

1) If you already have a "decent head of hair", which you certainly do, and you've maintained it.... then obviously yes, of course!

2) I don't think anyone knows that for sure. If you're a good responder to dutasteride it could work for a very long time. Finasteride works at maintaining hair on average for over five years, but obviously for some people it works for over a decade or longer. And dutasteride is stronger than finasteride. So it depends, but i'd guess since you're a good responder to dutasteride you've got a good 5-10 years of maintainence at least before you start losing anything, plus you're using minoxidil.

3) I know nothing of transplants unfortunately. However I'd say you're probably too young and have too much hair to just fill in the temples or something.

4) You could eventually hit nw4/5 i guess, though i'd say it would be AGES away. Really, it's best not to worry about hair loss that's happening now, let alone in decades and decades to come!

1) Yes you can get a decent head of hair. Not like what you had at 13 but for a grown man a good looking amount of coverage that the average member of the public will not see any problem with.

2)Since meds are fairly new (last 10yrs) nobody knows for sure what the distant future holds for users. However for those that have responded well to the treatment have so far maintained (some guys have been on them for 10 yrs). Dont worry about the distant future hair will be less important to you the older you get.

3)Same answer as question 1

4) Depends if they work for you (if you are a good responder) or not. Otherwise same answer as question 2.

*One important thing to consider, if you do go for a hair transplant its best to be conservative with your hairline. Of course everybody wasnts a low, dense youthfull looking hairline, but remember if you use up a large amount of your donor hair at the front and then you do go onto lose the rest of your hair nw4/5 like your relatives did. You may not have enough donor left to cover the rest of your head. :freaked2:

Excellent responses, guys.

I guess that I must pray to the hair gods to have mercy on me, and get on with my life.

Altough, I'm so incredibly tempted to get a hairline transplant with Dr. Armani, I'll have to put that thought on hold. I simply don't have the funds for such an expensive ($13,000) operation.

Cheers for the great posts, everyone.

College, I'll PM you later.

Aplunk,
As I had mentioned in a different post,
you are on dutasteride that means that you will not go past for NW2 for many years to come.
My bet is that you will be safe for atleast 20-30 more years.
If anyone says you might go bald, I ask them to post pictures of one user who has gone from NW2 to 3 or more after being on dutasteride or finasteride.

I say if you think dutasteride will not regrow your hair line, and it seems to be maintaining good, and your hair line does not look good, then fix it. You are not even a Norwood 2. You will not need a lot of grafts. Even if you continue balding, you can just shave it eventually. Just make sure you get a thin, long scar (longer is thinner), don't don't risk killing donor hair by doing very high density at once.

I'm looking at my temples, and Dr Keene is right about where they need to go. She was right all along. Now instead of just needing one more procedure to thicken, I need to do two, one to bring them forwards, and another to thicken. So 7 months longer before I have the hair I want.

HM will likely come out, but it may be 10 years before you can afford it. I'm very confident Avodart will last you a while. And if you can't be a NW1, shaving is not that bad. I'd only recommend NW2's with odd shaped heads not to shave. I'm really seeing the flaws in other guy's appearances, and getting good at predicting who matches up with whom. I know just where I want to put my hairline, and that is where it will go, full density.
