I was having a discussion with a dermatologist today and he was telling me about a new drug which I think was called Protopic. This discussion was initially unrelated to hairloss, but he said the topical drug had both anti-inflammatory and immune suppressing properties. I have read many times that drugs like cyclosporine that are used as anti-rejection drugs grow lots of hair but are too dangerous. He seems to think that immune supressing drugs like cyclosporine will only work if the person has allopicia areata, and not allopecia related to DHT like we have. He says he uses Protopic for allopecia areata. I had read an article a little while ago, a point that might be common knowledge to most people here, that said that the immune system might have something to do with hair loss by attacking the follicle. I need some help here. Is this the case, will these drugs grow hair for us? Might a topical drug like this Protopic help us?
