Hey everyone, I am new to this site and new to the hair loss fight as a whole. I know that these questions have probably already been asked and I sound lilke an idiot for not knowing these things but any help at all would be greatly appreciated. I am considering going on the big 3 as you all call it and was wondering a few things. Will going on minoxidil and stopping use be worse for my hair than never starting it? Also, is propecia only available by prescription? What about the shampoo that I'm supposed to use, is that available at a store? Finally, I am 22 and is there any evidence that age plays any part in the sexual side effects of propecia? Thank you in advance to anyone who can help me!

If you start minoxidil and then stop let's say in 6 months, all the hair you gained will be lost. So you will just go back to baseline. (How your hair was when you started, then male pattern baldness will continue). The same will happen with Propecia. But they work together but in an independent way to each other. So one will not keep the hair gained by the other.

Propecia, you can get online and from other sources. Make a search. I get mine from my Dr but I order Proscar instead and just cut them into 4. I don't know of any research that says it can harm younger people. The best advice is to go and see a Doctor as a matter of course before starting this drug.

Nizoral can be purchased over the counter in the UK. Not sure about other countries. You may need a prescription depending where you are from.

After extended use and then stopping you will lose a little more than if you had not started, but after a few weeks/months it will return to a position similar to that of how you would have been without minoxidil. See yellow line in the simplified graph below.

You can purchase propecia without a prescription from various online sources.

Nizoral (with 2% Ketoconazole)
Nizoral (with 1% Ketoconazole)
Nutrogena T/Sal
Nutrogena T/Gel

These can all be of benefit when fighting hairloss.

Nizoral is the shampoo choice and the third part in the 'big 3'

Without knowing where you are it's hard to know if it is avaliable in your local store, it's freely available in some countries, only 1% OTC in others and not for sale at all in a few.

I would think if you are 22 and have a giant shlong you may be less prone to sexual side effects, but to be honest that's just a guess.

Overall sexual side effects run at about 2% (according to the manufacturer, but it may be higher) in most people these subside with continued use.
