I'm Losing My Hair And I'm Losing My Mind!

Hi, I've never posted anything on here before, or online ever, I'm not much good with computers so I apologise if this is posted in the wrong place or whatever. I have however been reading this website for the past few months and it seems like the most constructive one I've found. I'm 28, I've been losing my hair for the past 3 or 4 years, mainly thinning on the crown area and a bit of recession at the front. I'm not handling it at all well. I've had long hair my whole life and for whatever reason I can't let go. I have tried laser hair therapy for one whole year with absolutely crap results! Wasted a whole lot of money and I'm gutted about that too. I've been using Minoxidil for the last year too... Again, with minimal results. I am also taking "Vitamins for the Hair" which i bought from Holland and Barrett... Again, no results. I got all pumped up about taking Propecia which I've been putting off the whole time, just because of the side effects really. Took four tablets, got headaches and realised that I can't do it... Too many horror stories about the drug. It has, and I'm embarrassed to admit this, ruined the last few years of my life and is continuing to do so. I look absolutely ridiculous and I'm stressed out up to the eyeballs. Also, my hair has started coming out much more now, and nearly every morning I pull one big, dead lump of knotted/matted hair out. If anyone is interested in what I've written, please get back to me with any advice. Are there any alternative treatments with any validation that I could try?

You have to be consistent with the Minoxidil otherwise it might make look your hair even worse. minoxidil only won´t stop you from going bald, though. Ketoconazole as the active ingredient in Nizoral shampoo is said to have some minor positive effects for hair loss.
You might also consider a topical DHT-Inhibitor such as RU58841, though i don´t know much about it, since i am using oral finasteride.

I know what you are going through. At least you should try to slow down hair loss and keep as many hair follicles as possible alive, which might be helpful with future treatments!!!

To both replies, thank you for your advice. I think I was taking the smallest dosage of Propecia, I'm not saying that it was the drug that was giving me the headaches by the way, just that I think I'd be one of those people who would worry to much about taking it that I gave myself the side effects, if you know what I mean? Though, the listed side effects are no worse than the side effects I have over losing my hair really. And i will look up RU58841, thanks. Do they not carry the same sides though? I'm assuming they're absorbed into the skin is all? And I use Minoxidil every morning before work or afternoon after work and every night. Is that right? How can that be detrimental? I also use Alpecin shampoo... And that's doing nothing either.

Thanks again, any more advice from any other users would be much appreciated.

Ah, ok, I thought you had stopped minoxidil. Topicals are usually well tolerated by most, but I am not really into it, because I am on oral finasteride.

I know what you mean, the depression over hair loss couldn´t be worse than the sides I get from Finasteride though I don´t getting any real one from it anyways. One more advice: Don´t play with dosages, this has made the hair worse for many people. Take the recommended dosage of 1mg, lower dosages usually don´t give you less sides and generic finasteride is rather cheap.

Good Luck!
