I'm about to take the plunge into dutasteride.

Duprost to be precise.

finasteride failed me. From what I saw It did anyway. Having to cut them up didn't do me any favours into thinking it was working or helping.

What is dutasteride compared to finasteride?

Would it be, finasteride, with .1 more power or higher? or is it finasteride x2 more power?

What should I expect if I go on this stuff. Not much? Nothing?

If I didn't see any results on finasteride, which I didn't, should I expect any more on dutasteride? because I don't.

Just how powerful is this. Are we talking the earlier you start gives you an advantage or doesnt it matter? Is there any research into this or anything significant, that has shown to yield better results?

Last of all.....

Has anyone seen results on dutasteride, despite seeing none on finasteride?

How do we even know this is better.

Cheers

Don't expect a miracle though my friend. You know as well as I do that dutasteride only stops play of dht but doesn't encourage larger diameter growth. You may want to try a combo regimen.

Gunner I'm no expert on dutasteride but from I've read in these forums before I have seen many people report that they have experienced faster hairline recession while on dutasteride.

You also have to weigh up whether the increased propensity for side effects is worth the small benefit you might get over finasteride.

Bump.

Anyone with experience taking dutasteride?

Those people that experience faster recession normally don't stay on dutasteride long enough. Like with finasteride, there is often a shed period. Since dutasteride is a dual-inhibitor, and basically gets rid of all DHT in the body, the sheds can be much worse. So, Gunner, I would just continue to take dutasteride for a year, ignore any sheds that come your way, and judge your progress then. Statistically, dutasteride should give you about 30% better results than finasteride.

Sure, but would you say there's a greater risk of side effects?

Of course. Read my earlier posts -- I am not a fan of dutasteride. There are possible long-term consequences that one must consider. It simply can't be healthy to completely rid your body of the strong(est) androgen like DHT. Especially considering the fact that the 5-AR I isozyme has been found in neural tissue, connective tissue, etc.

drinkrum, So you dont think the DHT that Propecia inhibits is dangerous and could have long term consequences aswell ?

So far, long-term studies (5, 10 years) have showed the relative safe profile of finasteride. Also, there is a whole group of people in the Dominican Republic, born lacking the 5-AR II isozyme, that have been studied at length for many decades. Although they are born pseudohermaphrodites, after puberty, they become masculine, live normal lives, and don't get bald. This leads to me to believe that finasteride is generally well tolerated. But I am still uncomfortable with the idea of taking a pill that exerts hormonal effects everyday for the rest of one's life. I plan to take it until a better option emerges, but for now, it's the best we've got.

Anyone taking half the dosage of dutasteride to minimize the sides?

I wouldn't call 'em lucky. They spend the first fifteen years of their lives as girls, and probably don't grow full size penises at puberty either.

Oh sh*t my bad! I never new that but thanks for educating me on it. I have one more question for you drinkrum and i was wondering if you could help me out with it please. Will taking propecia cause me to lose some muscle definition and hardness? Because i though DHT is what makes you lean and hard and wouldn't reducing it cause a loss in muscle definition and hardness? Also i want to supplement Calcium D-Glucarate because it lowers estrogen and helps prevent various types of tumours.I just dont want to chance too much estrogen production while taking Propecia so would this be Ok to do? Thanks!

Regarding the muscle definition, it shouldn't happen with finasteride. Those pseudohermaphrodites, for example, had normal musculature. The isozyme (Type II, 5-AR) that finasteride inhibits is found mostly in genital tissue, the prostate, and the liver. Check out my previous posts on this topic.

Taking C-D-G couldn't hurt, although there are limited studies on it. You could also eat lots of fruits and veggies to get the same benefit.
