I have a little problem. About a couple weeks ago I noticed that my temples have lost some hair. And shedding seems to continue. So what I could do to it? I have looked different regimens, and "the big 3" looks good. But now comes the problem: Everyone in this forum says that 16 years old can't start Finasteride and I should wait like 2 years. Everyone says too that Rogaine helps, but the efficiency lasts only couple of years. So what I should buy? Use Rogaine two years and after that I would start using Finasteride?

(sorry for my bad english, hopely you did understand the point :<)

I would talk to a doctor. What you could be experiencing is the development of your mature hairline. I got mine around 16-17. If you are losing your hair, your doctor can still prescribe you finasteride. I have heard from numerous sources that starting at your age is not a huge deal. Although I would be skeptical if I were in your shoes....

Finasteride lowers your Dihydrotestosterone which is very dangerous to someone who is 16 years. Also, how do you know that you're balding? Did your father got bald very young? Maybe you're just developing a mature hairline which is normal happens for people who are 16-30 and it has nothing to do with balding.

Also you should do a blood test, if your Iron level is low then it could cause your hair to thin. Also low folic acid could cause your hair to thin.

My fathers temples have no hair at all, otherwise he has a very good hair. He lost his templehair maybe in 25-30 years old, and after that he hasn't got bald at all. Now he's 55. I knew that I'm going to have the same, but not that early.. I looked some pictures from half year ago, and when I compared those to pictures from 2008, you can see some difference in hairline. I just hadn't noticed it before now, because during the last month shedding has gotten faster and I don't why. That is scary to me. And yes, i'm going to school doctor next week. Maybe he can help.

I still need help with medicine.. Should I go to buy Rogaine now? Finasteride isn't option to me anymore.

edit: OH sh*t, i just looked my crown and what i saw... little hairloss. This looks very aggressive, and I'm in serious panic right now.

You MUST go to your doctor and tell them that you want transferring to a dermatologist. Don't tell your doctor you are worrying about it because they'll use the excuse your stressed or just think your paranoid. Talk to them as if you are actually balding. They'll transfer you to a derm then (hopefully) and they'll give you a clearer explanation and advise you on what you should do.

Good luck :)

I think I would give Finasteride a miss at 16 if I were you, mate.

If you don't have facial hair or any other secondary sex characteristics, Finasteride's inhibition of DHT may prevent you from growing the facial hair you otherwise would have.

It may also affect your growth if you're not fully grown.

I know at 16 I hadn't finished growing - I had no facial and body hair (until I was 20), and I grew another inch after my 16th birthday.

If you think you've fully grown (and are definitely NW3+) then maybe consider it.
If you're a NW2 - wait a few years. Chances are it is a mature hairline developing.
I got a mature hairline at 20, and it stayed that way for a good few years.

The youngest guy I know who went bald, lost it at 19 years old. (went from thick sandy curly hair to NW5 in a year...)
