If You Get Hair Transplant At 30, Will It Look Horrible At 50-80???

This is probably my biggest fear with doing it now

How will the hair look when I am in my 50s, 60s, 70s and 80s even if I get the work done by a great surgeon? Does it look like a shitty combover/rat's nest?

If you anticipate further hairloss, yes. Finasteride won't help you at that point either as it's not meant for people that old. Luckily for you, you'll be able to clone your hair follicles at that point.

how would I know that??

my dad's side was completely bald at 22 - like a NW6 or 7 but my mom's side has pretty decent hair. My mom's brother still has hair at 55

You can't really know unless you check your family history; your father, your uncles, your maternal grandfather etc. Ask them whether they were starting to bald at your age. One of them is bound to be the one you share the male pattern baldness genes with.

It can't be anything on my dad's side. They were all completely bald like NW7 by 24

It has to be my mom's side - my uncle has better hair than me so I'm thinking i have similar patterns to either him or my grandpa

How much hair have you lost? Ask your uncle and grandfather about whether they experienced the same pattern as you. If you're lucky, your hairline matured and it'll be a while before you will start losing your hair for real, with further recession and thinning. My temples receded by slightly more than an inch about 3-6 months ago with no further loss and no thinning. My maternal grandfather is the only one who started losing his hair this early; it receded slightly and resumed a little more than a decade later. The irony lies in the fact that despite losing his hair earlier, he ended up becoming a Norwood 4 whereas everyone else went to 5 or all the way to 7.

I have a weird hair situation. I have moderate recession on the temples and two balding patches in the crown but the rest of it is so thick to where I can comb over and it's not noticeable. I have great donor area too

I think a hair transplant would work great for me but I'm just worried how it will look 30 years from now

I noticed the recession and balding patches 2 years ago but it really hasn't moved since then

Well, the fact that your crown is thinning implies that you have early onset hair loss instead of a maturing hairline. If you start taking Finasteride, you should get your hair back in your crown and halt any further hair loss, especially since it's not aggressive. Hair transplants are not advised for anyone in their 20's, since you will end up losing more and more hair down the line. What you can do is take a DHT inhibitor like Finasteride to slow the progress down. Taking the Big 3 (Finasteride, Minoxidil and Nizoral) will help you even more, but at some point, neither Nizoral nor Minoxidil will be effective and Finasteride will be the only thing you'll still use. As for Finasteride: the younger you are, the more effective it will be.

what are the odds of side effects with finasteride for someone in my situation? I am in great shape, work out regularly and have great sexual health. I don't want manboobs or a limp c***.

at what point does finasteride stop being effective?

I believe 3% of Finasteride users experience side effects. Overall, estimates suggest that out of every 1000 users of this medication, about 4-10 will develop gynecomastia. Breast tissue enlargement occurs rapidly or in a delayed manner - ranging from 14 days to 2.5 years in some studies. One side is involved in 50% of patients and both sides are involved in the other 50% (i.e. one or both sides of the chest).

It's not certain when Finasteride stops being effective; the reason why the effects wear off is because your DHT sensitivity increases with age. So it's largely individual. But the fact that doctors recommend using it up to the age of 40 suggests that the average 40-year old balding man will experience less benefits on this medication. However, at that point, one can start using Dutasteride instead, which is a more potent DHT inhibitor.

am I being just too greedy to want my teenage crown again?

I have such nice hair that if I did 3000 transplant with say 1500 in the crown and 1500 in the temple, I would have a male model looking head of hair

depends on how much you're destined to lose. I am the perfect example. I had a small one (800 grafts) because I had a balding left side. Now, I notice that I am balding half way down the back of my head, the entire top AND the upper sides, like my father.

People on forums have tried to convince me to get another one, but there is literally no f*****g point unless I want weird, sickly looking hair and a head full of scars.

So, it just depends. Some people never go beyond NW2-3. But, you will never actually know if it's a good idea or not. There is literally no way to know. Chances are yes, you will probably look weird once you are old.

am I better off waiting until 35-40 so I can see what my hair loss is destined to be like?

Here's the dilemma I've also got. Wait and you can make the choice with more confidence that it's a more permanent measure, but it comes at the cost of looking like sh*t during your years of waiting.

It's fair to say your youngest years are your best once, so waiting 10 years now might not be worth it to you in order to gain 20 years of good hair later. It's an individual choice I think.

of course you are. if you don't have a reasonable expectation of the future than how in God's name do you make plans right now? especially with something as unpredictable as transplants?

Because time has value, and your younger years have more value than your older ones.

To take this point to its full and logical conclusion: you'd have even more expectation of the future if you waited until 60 to have a procedure done. But by then you're 60, your best yers have passed, and you'll have deteriorated in a number of other areas...so who the f*** cares by that point, it's already over even if you get your hair back.

I don't think I'm ever going to be a NW6 or NW7. My dad was NW7 by 25. The men on my mom's side are around NW2 to maybe NW5 and the NW5 is at a much older age

here are the 3 important questions

1)if I do lose a lot more hair, can I get 2 more surgeries done to where it just looks decent overall? I don't need to have perfect hair at 48, I just don't want horrible balding patches.

2)my current hair looks good and most people can't tell I am balding at all because of the density of the non balding areas as I can comb over. Is it worth it to pay the 10K now or wait another 10 years? I would absolutely love to have the crown I had in my early 20s

3)how natural does the transplanted hair look if you get a lot more aggressive hair growth 20 years down the line?
