If spironolactone has to be converted by the liver to work, why does topical spironolactone work for acne?

spironolactone has several active metabolites, some are activated in the liver, and some are not. Oral spironolactone acts on multiple pathways, but I IIRC topical only acts on the AR. It should work, but not as well as oral.

In Spain, they made lotion with Canrenone ( canrenona if you want to search for it ) , that is the active metabolite of spironolactone.
