hi guys. as you can see I have miniaturization on my hairline. had it for about 1.5 years now and in that time I have receded from a Norwood 1.5 to Norwood 2.5 imo.

question is if I started finasteride would these thicken up as I have read fins not so great for the hairline?

I've attached 3 images. both close ups if my temple areas. also one where I cleverly style my hair to make the receding hairline less obvious.

if finasteride works for you, there's no reason why it shouldn't work all over the head

don't count on 'thickening up' - it's just a possible bonus. Consider maintaining what you have a success

thanks

Minoxidil by itself will only be a temporary, quick fix measure I'm afraid, it's a growth stimulant essentially and isn't going to stop the ongoing destruction of your hairline, only Finasteride will do this because it combats 5-Alpha Reductase (the enzyme responsible for mintuarising and destroying your hair)

I've seen studies on this forum before showing that Minoxidil results top out around the 12month mark on average for most people, so you'll see good results in this 12month period which fool many into thinking they're onto a permanent winner (but as I said, minoxidil is only a growth stimulant, so most of this newly regrown hair is just tumbleweed and slowly begins to start disappearing again after 12months meaning all your regrowth will be lost very quickly if you're not on Finasteride at the same time)...

So in short if you are as serious about regrowing/maintaining your hairline (although to be honest your hairline looks like a perfect natural nw2 to me) then you'll need BOTH Finasteride and Minoxidil, otherwise it'll grow thinner over time.

Also don't worry about sheds, lots of people whine and b&tch about sheds here on a daily basis, but it's the main sign that the medication is actually working and regrowing your hair in slow stages, no pain no gain, if you want good results in the longterm say 9-12months, then you have to accept your hair is going to look a bit sh&t, more receded and diffused for the first 6months or so before it comes back with a vengeance... just keep your hair short and ride out those opening 6 months, this is much better than doing nothing at all an slowly going bald permanently over the years with no hope whatsoever of a recovery.
