Started finastride 2 weeks ago. Hair texture gradually went from relatively to thick and wavy to thin, wispy dry and brittle, like all the life got sucked out of my hair. Yesterday it got even more like this.
Do i have a case of reflex hyperandrogenicity or do i need to ride it out and hope for it to improve?
Other side side effects are increased libido, hot flashes and slight shedding.

Do you mean finastride has sped up the process of giving me the hairline i was eventually going to have down the line due to mbp?

Im sure ive got mbp as its in my family but finastride has just accelerated it from what im exeperiencing, started it already and its already done damage so might aswell carry it on but in hindsight i would not of touched it, only started it cause i had slight thinning in one side of the temples and to 'maintain' my hair

Its been 2weeks but my hair has got significantly worse and i have the symptoms of reflex hyperandrogenicity. As ive said i took fina to maintain my hair mainly so if im loosing my hair and reeceding i dont see it getting improved especially based on the respones that other people had with a case of reflex hyper

Damn dude finasteride can’t effect the texture and quality of existing hair that long. Are you sure you didn’t soak your head in acetone?

The hair that we see is DEAD protein and finasteride has ABSOLUTELY ZERO effect on it. Period.

Not finasteride, but using minoxidil the same thing happened to me. My hair had gone from pretty good quality to being dry, brittle and whispy. And it’s only where I have used the treatment. I was considering finasteride to maybe get some thickness back but now I’m not so sure.

I know hair is dead protein and im not on minoxidl. Why should finasteride not have an effect on it? It effects the scalp which is where your hair is.
When you cause a hormonal change in your body it can be a shock to the system and the system initally tries to 'fight it' and your hairs become more sensitive for whatever reason and this causes the hair to shed and for some people the hair to go very dry and brittle (maybe this a state of telogen effluvium) i dont know, but it causes a shock to the hairs in the head i.e why i look like i have been electrocuted.
Apparently after the initial hormonal change your body should attempt to get used to it and things should try get better.
At the moment my hair is still diffusing around the hairline and its reeceded but
my libido has gone back down and my scalp is less oily but ive gone back to my scalp exepereincing tingling which is usually followed by some hairs falling out

Sir, finasteride can f*** the ROOT of your hair, true but, absolutely not the shaft that has already sprouted out of the scalp. The hair shaft that you see, NO ORAL DRUG can make it thinner or thicker or whatsover. It is just in your head.

As alibaba said it can’t affect the hair that is already out. You can however like many experience some root changes such as a shed. With a shed it’s a case of just waiting it out and things will then get better.

I agree with what you said the drug wouldnt cause the existent hair to go thinner, ive never said that that, ive argued it can very well cause the hair initally to go dry and brittle. That is a change of texture in the hair. Perhaps all those hairs were the first ones to be affected by mbp first, not sure but i have also hairs on the sides that have turned wispery. (Wispery hair feels thinner).
It seems the finasteride has accelerated the hair cycle of my existent hairs causing the long hair at the top which have been there for a while to fall out quicker.

finasteride can NOT do that either. finasteride can only shed your hair. idk why it is so hard to understand.

I have no reason to lie about whats happened, im just stating what has happened to my hair. Pictures show aswell.
In short: (1)left side of of temple was slighty thinning & had abit of a tingly scalp - went on finastride, tingling stopped but crazy sides; huge increase of libido+ mild testicular pain, oily scalp & hot flashes then followed 9 days later by a shed on that side of the temple.
(2)During those 9 days aswell right side of temple and other parts of my hair also started to go brittle and wispery.
(3)Following those 9 days and till present now, sides have decreased but still there, scalp tingling sensation returned, slight shedding on the top of my head and have noticed it feels less dense. Most the hairs thats have come out are the brittle wispery ones.
Also back of my head hairs feel more stable around the crown and less shedding in that area since taking finastride.

Perhaps in the upcoming months it will get better and show the desired results, but loosing long hair sucks cause it takes a while to grow and i would of preffered just to maintain it.
