I see people say buy two cause the first one will be ruined due to first timer negligence and that due to inexperience you're bound to mess it up the first time around. But since this is new to me I figure why not spend that expense on a salon visit for a cut and installation. But after that I will take it off and clean and reapply accordingly myself.

Should the system be in good shape then or can I still somehow mess it up?

My first system will likely be a lace front/top with poly sides so any input on this would be appreciated

I rarely see this happening. It would be cheaper, and easier for you to let the salon do the first maintenance or two, in case your are nervous. I almost never sell first-timers TWO systems at once.

If you buy two at once, you may just get two bad ones, because you probably didn't do the correct specifications and customizations on your first try. Only my 2nd one was undetectable and only 3rd was normal looking and also dublicates. It's difficult doing it without duplicates, but ordering two bad duplicates must be double the horror that you are getting anyway with you first system. I can't even remember though how I dere-d with Ghostbond and just one system. Doesn't seem possible, because it needs soaking for a long time. Probably did it detached before night and attached in the morning then. Damn how long ago it already was. My 2nd system catastrophy:

If you're looking to save time, you could buy two but it's really better to just go with one and see how you fare with it.

Who knows, maybe you might decide hair systems are not for you and then you're stuck with them. Or if you find it's not comfortable and/or prefer a different type of hair system (diff base etc.), it's better to have bought just one so you can get a more suitable one next time.

Right now I am purely going salon (I started wearing in July after years of concealors) including the piece itself. I told them (I had done a lot of research before) about getting 2 pieces and they laughed and said its a waste of money unless you are totally doing DYI and need a spare in case you screw up.

That made me very nervous but so far they are right. But there is variation. My first one lasted 4 months but my current one is going to get changed in mid-January and they ordered my next one for that. It is doing OK but they noticed things that conviced me to get a new one sooner (they recommended changing every 2-3 months).

One thing that differs for everyone based on sweat, skin conditions, etc. is how often you need to reattach. They said people on average go back there every 4 weeks but it can vary from every 2 weeks to every 6 weeks. I am finding that every 3 weeks is just about right for me.
