I am going through a depression today. I have had depression ever since I found out my hair was falling 3 years ago but today is a little tougher than most. I was an NW1 and now I am an NW3. It bothers me to no end that there aren't any scientists who are trying to find a cure for this. Finding the cure for hair loss is practically a golden goose. Whoever finds a cure would be the richest person in the world. It is 2016 and we have found a way to let blind people SEE AGAIN. People who have been blind for 20 YEARS are able to SEE AGAIN using a special set of electronic glasses. Don't believe me? Look it up. We have a solution for BLIND PEOPLE and yet we are no closer to a hair loss cure in 30+ years. I don't understand.
I need to blow some steam.

To be fair, i would say that blind people are more deserving of a cure. But yes, it is very frustrating how little we have in terms of treatments.

If there are no govt. scientists or scientists at universities dedicating most of their time to finding a cure for hair loss, to be honest I wouldn't be surprised or have a problem with it. They have better things to do. But I'd be pretty surprised if there are literally no scientists working for drug companies dedicating some time to it. Of course, I don't know either way. But... how does anyone else?

It is being worked on, and most likely expedited comparative to other quests for cures (there is just so much money for it not to be). We all just have to be patient, because as much as I would love a world without hair loss, I certainly wouldn't want it in exchange for being in poorer health otherwise, and said cure causing that.

I have never seen an ad asking to send an SMS to donate 3 euros to "hair loss research" as opposed to cancer research, Oxfam, UNICEF, so I don't see where this trade off between male pattern baldness and more serious issues is being done...

Sokubo did not suggest that anyone is asking for donations for hair loss research. He did suggest that not only is research being done toward a cure, but it's probably expedited in comparison to some other worthy quests for cures which would not be nearly as lucrative if successful.
What bugs me more is the perceivable lack of compassion in any research being done. Whatever is discovered to help is extortionately expensive. They just bump the prices up claiming its a 'cosmetic' problem, and use that to mask the fact that nobody actually seems to care about curing hair loss, only to make as much money as possible through exploiting our desperation.
That being said, I do agree that the vast majority of research should go into more serious concerns.

May I ask you how old you are?
I am 44. Started balding at 19. Dermatologist at 19 got me minoxidil and nizoral. At 24-25, finasteride.
Have been waiting for this expedition quite a while now.
Oh, and like @hellouser reminds us every now and then, there are a mere five official studies around the world now pertaining hair loss.

What I did say is that people often complain here, as in the OP, that "there aren't any scientists who are trying to find a cure for this." And I'm not sure where the evidence is for that. Do drug companies release detailed descriptions of all their research?
As for "official studies", would a drug company's private research for a commerical product (for a cosmetic improvement no less) necessarily be an "official study"?
And whether or not something exists is in no way evidence regarding whether or not research into it is being expedited. I'm quite sure research into a cure for the common cold has been expedited 1000000 times over.

Melanoma is about 10000000 times as serious as baldness, so if it's yielding only 20x as many studies then that's lucky for those who are worried primarily about baldness.
And 9 human studies are twice as many as you mentioned there are earlier in the thread, and a whole lot more than the zero the OP said there are. Wow there are a lot of studies related to baldness, you must be surprised...

No, I don't think it's serious in comparison to melanoma. Do you?
I mean, look. I'm losing my hair. I don't want to lose my hair, and if I can prevent it that would be great. But I have some perspective about it, there are far worse problems in the world. So, I came here originally to read about people's experiences with finasteride and minoxidil. And I've benefitted by reading the comments of (and debating) posters like k9gatton and yourself. But at the same time, as you know there's stuff posted here that's flat-out wrong, off the wall, etc. So I react, for the good of my fellow man. :xmas:

Hopefully minoxidil will work as well for me for such a long time. We'll see... if/when it stops working as well I'll start to use it twice a day, and then maybe look for a higher %. And then the question of finasteride... so far, in the 8 months I've been using it, the minoxidil has been great.
I remember a few months ago there were a few posters who made it a mission to post every day about what a horrible drug minoxidil is. They're gone. Funny how posters here come and go...
