It depends on:
- do you only spray only on hairless scalp or do you manage to reach the part that might be thinning in a while, following the temples?
- do you massage at least a couple of seconds?
- do you leave your hair dry for four hours?

when i saw severe thinning at the temple, i just shaved to the point where its thinning which is an Norwood 2,5, so i just put the minoxidil upto that point. Yes, after applying minoxidil I massage enough so that the area gets red (blood circulation and better absorption). I also apply tretinoin 0.05% 20 min before minoxidil on that area and yeah hair is dry when i do it.

Sorry I meant you should keep your hair dry after the administration of minoxidil.
In that case, you should be fine, even though if your thinning is "severe" I think you may want to use minoxidil all over your scalp as a preventive measure. This is what I would do; anyways, everyone has their habits.
