Went back into a different dermatologist today who is pretty well known and was highly recommended to me. Tells me my fucked up hair and hair loss in the front center isn't even male pattern baldness. And that the small crooked hairs aren't miniaturized hairs, and that they're the same density as the rest of my hair. She said they just look severely damaged. WTF? These fuckn hairs that started in forelock area were the whole reason I even went into the dermatologist in the first place 3 years ago. She told me to take finasteride 1mg daily, but to drop minoxidil because I may be allergic to minoxidil itself, and to start taking a really strong topical steroid that she gave me a prescription for to use on my hairline and the sides of my head because apparently I have inflammation in these areas.. Not hopeful at all, but oh well will see how this goes. I swear every fuckn doctor I go to tells me something different about my hair. And nothing ever works.

That's rough man

The first derm I saw when trying to get a script for finasteride told me he didn't prescribe it because "he wouldn't take it himself." The punchline was that he was a fullhead dude in his 60's. Well no sh*t he wouldn't take it! Here he was telling me this as I sat there in my 20's, in danger of permanently losing my looks. Imagine being cancer free and telling a cancer patient "I wouldn't do chemo myself." f*****g lol. He also told me the effectiveness of finasteride and minoxidil is "about the same," completely disregarding the science of how these treatments work and that the mechanisms of what they do make one a much longer term treatment than the other

The next derm I saw prescribed me finasteride immediately and basically told me the same things we learn about finasteride and minoxidil from this forum. He also told me finasteride and minoxidil should help me "hang on for the next 5-10 years until something better comes out" :D:D:D Hopefully he's proven right. I am grateful though that I got a script on my second try

Man if that happened to me with that first derm, that would piss me off soooo fuckn much. I remember one doctor (GP not derm) I went to back in the day (old dude with full head of hair in his 70s) told me to stop taking all my vitamins and workout supplements, and to completely stop weight lifting because it could be contributing to hair loss, and that I should just take up swimming and not do any treatments. He said he goes swimming all the time and that its helped him stay in shape and keep his hair. I wanted to punch the dude straight in his front two teeth. I don't understand how some of these people become doctors.

she told that minoxidil damaged hair?
but if they are like the so called expert in france , you can't trust them .
they don't know anything .they just have a diplome , but no knowledge about hairloss .

She didn't say it damaged hair. Just said I have inflamation on the hairline which is the area I am applying it. Told me some people are allergic to the stuff (forget what its called) that is in the liquid but not the foam, but I am using the foam, so I could be having a reaction to the minoxidil itself. Said to drop it temporarily while using the steroid to see what happens.

It's all these older doctors. They're stuck in their old ways and don't read up on any new studies. That's why I prefer doctors that are in their mid to late 30s. They also can better relate to and understand what someone my age is going through.
