My balding brothers: How can taking Dutas/Avodart cause shedding? I can see how adding a topical to your skin could cause this..but a pill? Any advice is appreciated.

by reducing, or changing DHT levels, you are also changing with the growth cycle of hairs, most of which are being effected by male pattern baldness... so with a drastic change in DHT, the hair probably gets some type of shock, or cue to stop growing thin, and grow thicker because of the new DHT level... something like that i am sure

Sounds pretty logical. Can this occur after a 14 days of useage?

i would say that is typical, not that i have an science to back it up, though it seems that dutasteride users talk of a faster, sometimes "stronger" shed... again, i do not have any real statistics to back this up

Appreciate your prompt replies. In your non-professional opinion-would you say that shedding in this case is a sign of an effective treatment?
