Title and yeah it's an anecdote but figured I'd share it.
I'm not currently on finasteride because of a lingering ailment that needs to be resolved first (and I'm still Norwood 1.5, but vigilant regardless), not on minoxidil. I dermaroll once a week, take 5,000 mcg biotin daily, and ingest 1mL castor oil daily.
I ran out of Nizoral and Amazon messed up my order so I had to go 2 weeks without it(only noticed the last moment I never received the package). Experienced a big shed with lots of sebum being produced (I have bad dandruff without Nizoral, and seborheic dermatitis).
Every morning I would comb my hair for a period of those 2 weeks, I would see 20-50 hairs daily which has never been the case in my life so it was definitely worrisome.
Now, the next morning after I just used Nizoral again, I didn't have a single hair in my comb to my surprise. I tried combing with extra force than usual as well and still nothing.
I plan on getting the 2% version prescribed since I have terrible dandruff anyway(and I would save some money since my insurance would pay for it). I read excerpts of several studies indicating that ketoconazole has mild anti-androgenic properties and that would make sense, but I would be using it for dandruff regardless.
I think the people who say Nizoral is useless are either non-responders or are using it incorrectly. I always massage it into my wet hair and leave it in for at least 3 minutes, then I rinse it off. Use it at least 2x a week, up to 3x. You won't stop male pattern baldness with Nizoral alone, but it certainly helps.
