Losing hair is hard enough, but this desperation seems to make me vulnerable to risky behavior.

I bought 2% nizoral from http://www.canadadrugs.com. They sent me this pink clear liquid in a Janssen-Cilag labeled bottle. I used it twice and didnt dryout my scalp like the real stuff. It didnt even give much lather like a shampoo should. who knows what this pink stuff is?

Anyways, I went to local supermarket and bought proper Nizoral 1%.
It was $15 for a 200ml 1%.

Just letting you guys know, its not necessarily cheaper to buy online. And YES they will make and sell fake nizoral.
They charged me $30 after shipping costs for 200ml of 2% while you can get 200ml 1% for $15 at the supermarket.
The added risk of fake nizoral makes it even less worthwhile to get it online.

Nizoral 2% is pink and clear. Nizoral 1% is blue and milky white. It does not mean that you did not get fake shampoo but that is the right color. Any time you buy online there is a risk.

Really?

Is the Mcneil 2% nizoral pink and clear also? The stuff I got barely gives lather even if i rub it in. Maybe its in the formulation. The 1% mcneil nizoral from local supermarket drys out my scalp noticeably. The pink stuff doesnt seem to..

Not sure of the other brands and Petch has a great point. I bought the Jansen brand and it is exactly how you describe it.

My rule of thumb is always, anytime you buy online there is a risk.

I'm tempted to get me some 2%. I love the 1%. I think it is growing my hair thick. Could just be placebo effect though. My hair feels good. Piroctone olamine shampoo feels good too. male pattern baldness or no these shampoos are well worth the money. Never going back to those cheap 99 cent shampoos even if I get HM.

I cannot imagine anyone making fake shampoo---it's kind of silly if you really think about it.

Some comments:

1) 1% nizoral (ketoconazole) is over the counter in the US.

2) IIRC, Dr Lee markets a 2% ketoconazole formulation.

3) Remember, the shampoo is optimized as a drug delivery vehicle, not as a shampoo. Medicated shampoos are notorious for not foaming much. Reason is that the medications are organic compounds, which suppress foaming. It is hard to have it both ways.

But people expect their shampoos to foam. The best "cure" for this cosmetic issue is to add a high foaming highly-active surfactant such as SDS. But then you get complaints from people who worry about the "toxicity" of SDS. (BTW, not really a problem at levels normally used in shampoos-- We took SDS out of our formulations because we finally tired of fielding all the phone calls <grin>.)

So, shampoo formulators leave out the SDS or go to a less active surfactant. But then people complain that the shampoo doesn't foam. Ya just can't win...

The way around this is to use another shampoo before using the medicated shampoo. Then it will foam just fine.

4) The efficacy of antiseborrheic dermatitis agents in at least some cases of pattern loss has been reported for nearly 2000 years. The first century medical writer Galen reports that "Tar" sometimes works in pattern loss. The modern version is "T-gel", used in both wings of the propecia clinical trial to minimize seborrheic dermatitis as a variable.

Yeah i found it odd how some people from the US were having difficulties trying to get 2% nizoral. Up here in Canada, all I see is 2% and you can find it just about anywhere... and it's over-the-counter too.

Cheapest place I found (not online) is costco. You can get a two pack for $17CAD. If you don't have a costco membership, Walmart is 2nd cheapest at 12 bucks a bottle.

I was always wondering what that shampoo exactly do to the scalp. Some people said it helps to maintain hair while on minoxidil. Is that correct. Does that mean that combining minoxidil and that shampoo will get me better results?????? I read that it should be used only 2 to 3 time a week..

For the people in US:

Would ur health insurance pay for the 2% Nizorals?
I have prescription coverage, and since Nizoral is prescription drug would it pay for Nizoral?
