Okay, here goes. I am relatively new to these boards, I mainly check out other messages. Anyway, I know I need to go to a derm, because I am not quite sure if my hair loss is male pattern baldness or not. I have been thinning since I was 22, I am now 25. Thing is, I was diagnosed with Crohns Disease at 22.. thats when I had my first symptoms. I find it odd that that is exactly when hair problems started. Since then, unfortunately, both problems have only gotten worse. I jumped on finpecia, and I dont know if that is working or not.. still lose hair. Thing is, when I have flare ups of my disease, and especially when I have to take steroids like Prednisone and increase my dosage of immunosuppressants, hair loss gets more pronounced. I go off, it seems like it gradually thickens back up, but I may also have male pattern baldness on top of this because temples are more receded than when I was a teen. What a situation. So right now I really want to thicken my hair up. I was thinking adding a minoxidil product. Dont worry, I will post pics later, I gotta go get ready for work soon, I will do it later tonight But.. all this aside.. heres the question..
If my loss isnt due to male pattern baldness.. would hair I gained/regrew with minoxidil stay after I quit? I know it will start to shed if it is male pattern baldness.. but if somebody who doesnt have male pattern baldness takes minoxidil to speed up the growth process, could they take it until they see results? Or does the new hair need the minoxidil, male pattern baldness or no?
