It might be sun burn, and the dead skin is just peeling off

I had that during my first month on minoxidil. Not 'flakes', but what I would more accurately refer to as 'chunks' of scalp. It went away, either on its own, or maybe it was the Nizoral I started at the same time.

Then again, nothing came out of my head of the size of 2 or 3cm. My largest ones were mainly about a half centimeter wide. You might want to have that checked, just to make sure you don't have Ebola or something...
