Some people, me included, seem to believe that once the hairline starts receding it will with time lead to baldness or in some way to a more severe form of hairloss. Does hairlines that slowly recede always lead to baldness and how common is it to have a receding hairline that "stops" ?

Yes, nearly always.
Looks at Jack Nicholson or Jude Law.
It may take until their mid 40s until it all goes, but sooner or later its gone.
Jack Nicholson is 80 and is not bald. He is a thinner nw3. Jude Law is not bald...yet.
But then again, what is considered frontal receding? For some it's when your entire hairline/front has disappeared (Jude Law, Nicholas Cage) for others it's as soon as your hairline starts going up, even if it's a little. Seems to be different opinions on what it is exactly.

I had a teacher in college whose temples receided (dont know when, probaby slowly) and stayed that way, and will probably stay that way his entire life, considering he's on his 60s. That was the first time I've seen a perfect example of a "mature hairline", his receiding is "sharp", like his temples are angular on the inside, not round like you would expect a hairline to be
