How often do hair clippers wear out?

I bought some hair clippers to buzz my own hair short for 70 bucks. I'm wondering how often will I have to get new ones? Also, how will I know when I need to get new ones? Will the clippers just stop working or will they be weaker and not cut as much?

It depends on how often you use them. Look after them by keeping them lubricated and take the blades off occasionally to remove hair build up.

Eventually, when you sense the blades are no longer sharp enough, you can replace them without the need to buy new clippers.

I've got some with a ceramic blade - they're never meant to need sharpening or oiling.

What's a good general timeframe for replacing clipper blades? Every 6 months? Also, any drawbacks to a ceramic blade clipper? I might just get one of those next.
