OK, I reset the poll. If you are no longer maintaining, click how many years you maintained for or came close to maintaining, and then click the last option too. If you never maintained, click the first option. If you are still maintaining, just click how many years you maintained for.
--------------------------------

I got on finasteride in 2003, right in the beginning. I had a few lapses, maybe 4-6 months, but have pretty much been on finasteride since then.

I think my frontal tuff hair, which was pretty wispy back then, has thinned to just above vellus since then. But everything less looks good. If I shave my head, I can see 1/2 density in my vertex. But I don't know if that was there before. Probably was since I was a NW4a, and I remember noticing my top center was 1/2 density before I started finasteride.

I think I've been on Nizoral 1% 2 years now. Upping to 2% for good luck. On Piroctone olamine shampoo at least a year.

Anyway, I really think I'm going to hold my ground. I got temple grafts in 2005, August I think. looking at my temples, where the grafts meet the native hair, it does not look like any gaps opened. Native hair is looking strong.
My third shampoo for off days has some other experimental topicals in it.

What do you guys think? Am I home clear, or maybe headed for some top thinning soon? With my hair dry and 1 inch long, you can not tell I'm less than 100% density on top. I'll have to set it and check that way.

How long have you guys been on finasteride?
Think I should take Jayman's advice and get on Avodart? I was on it 6 months, no changes or sides, but got scared and got back on finasteride.

Re: How many years have you maintained?

5 years could be:

1. I have maintained for 5 years and then went downhill
2. I am on my 5 year mark and maintaining.

You need to revise your poll choices! :hairy:

I'm at 7 years now, and i'm finding it hard to say if i've lost ground or not, which means if i have its not by much.

Re: How many years have you maintained?

First off i think this is a good topic starter.

I said i've been losing ground (although be it slow) iv been getting a receding hairline for close to about a year. Maybe some recognise this as short term maintenance, but to me the recession hasn't been stopped dead in its tracks.

My hair is pretty much the same as two years ago (age 31 now)... I just didn't used to pay attention at that time.

I feel like I have improved slightly compared to last year, but not at a level that a neutral would observe any changes.

My man SE freak is right!

I maintained really well for the first 5.5 years - in the last 9 months or so things MAY have dropped off very slightly - but that may be more on account of me dropping my night time applications of minoxidil for giving Revivogen ago.

Just ordered some Dr Lee Xandrox 5% with Retin A, so will now give that a go for 6 months.
