How Long Will These Treatments Work?

I have a question...

I've read a number of websites, posts and stickys here at HairLossTalk.com, looked at the graphs and what not, and I've come to the conclusion that no matter what combination of treatment a person may use, (because every person is different) you will eventually succumb to male pattern baldness... :cry:

If a person uses Propecia, Rogaine, (or generics) and a third product...
What is the average time-frame before it all stops working and one is left with being bald???

Lets think about it. If you are a good responder to propecia, it appears on those long term 5 year graphs that baseline won't be reached until well after 5 years. Lets try to extrapolate that curve and say that it takes 8 years for a good responder to propecia to finally hit baseline. Then that individual can jump onto Rogaine, and he can offset the male pattern baldness process and pretty much go 5 years back in time. Thanks to rogaines strong stimulatino of hair regrowth, you should be able to buy yourself at least another 5 years. On top of this we have nizoral which also may be prolonging the balding process.

On the flip side, if you start the big 3 all at once, you will get massive regrowth from the rogaine, plus the finasteride will help you hold onto your hair for many years. You still won't reach baseline for a very long time.

Michael Barry posted something on this very recently, do a search and you might be able to find it. I think he concluded that propecia would buy you around 10-15 years; with minoxidil and nizoral, quite a few more beyond that.

I think the post regarded a ketconazole study and its' effect as an antiandrogen, but I can't remember.

The graph shows an average hair count comparison between the treatment and placebo groups. Hair counts for the treatment group are probably dragged down by non-responders. So I don't think it's necessarily the case that finasteride "stops working" after five years.

I think it largely depends on how aggressive your hair loss is and also how early you catch it.

I think finasteride will stop to work after 6 years. About minoxidil i dont know. Seems to me that no one knows the answer.

My plan is to use finasteride maximum 4 years. But as long as i think it's working. Then i'll switch to dutasteride.

What about dutasteride?
If casteration stops male pattern baldness, and dutasteride stops just about all of DHT then why do men on dutasteride still go bald? Testosterone needs to be lowered to right?

We have no long-term clinical evidence on dutasteride, only anecdotes. It's difficult to assess the efficacy of the drug with very little data.

I have read a great number of posts where guys using minoxidil have phenomenal results, but go to NW6 very suddenly after around 2-3 years of use.

However, I have also read a few posts of guys having 5-10 years of success on minoxidil, with each year better than the one before. One guy had over 5 years of success on Rogaine liquid, a short period of relapse, but success once again after beginning the new Rogaine foam.

Keep your fingers crossed and hope for the best.

My friend used rogain and was really happy with it at first because it looked like his hair was getting thicker. He is now pretty much balding really bad but his dad did too so he had strong family history. I dont think he ever knew about propecia, but rogain definitely did not help him at all.

i was a good responder to finasteride but it slowed down its effectiveness after 12 months - still working tho.
minoxidil is sh*t, it did worked for awhile but only it grow tiny hairs anyway so it isnt too usefult o fight male pattern baldness in my case.
none of the other treatment is too meangingful to me.
wonder if hair transplant is next

Okay, not to throw sh*t in all your guys' faces,
but Finasteride, Minoxidil, and Nizoral never STOP working. They continue to work as long as you use them; the effects of hair growth gradually wear down over a long period of time.
